NVIDIA reported $96.2 billion in quarterly revenue and guided to $108 billion for Q3. Those company figures, along with supply constraints and pressure on margins, are the key context for investors evaluating the outlook.
What happened to NVIDIA shares—and when?
NVIDIA released its Q2 FY2027 results on August 26, 2026. Kiplinger reported that the stock initially fell after the release, then rose almost 5% in after-hours trading as CFO Colette Kress discussed the results and management’s fiscal 2028 revenue-growth outlook. That was a dated move during the call, not evidence of a lasting price change or a reaction attributable to one statement alone. Kiplinger’s August 2026 live coverage described the sequence.
The headline’s “ahead of earnings” wording does not describe this event. NVIDIA’s official financial reports page lists Q2 FY2027 as the latest report in the available material. The official notice announcing the second-quarter call does not establish a date for the next Q3 FY2027 call, so an upcoming report date should not be inferred from it. NVIDIA’s financial reports and its July 29, 2026 call notice provide the dated company information.
What NVIDIA reported for Q2 FY2027
For the quarter ended July 26, 2026, NVIDIA reported revenue of $96.2 billion, up 106% year over year and 18% sequentially. Data Center revenue was $89.0 billion, up 117% year over year. These are reported results, not forecasts. NVIDIA’s financial reports page is the source for the figures.

What management expects next
On the August 26 earnings call, NVIDIA guided to Q3 FY2027 revenue of $108 billion, with a range of plus or minus 2%. Management also guided to GAAP and non-GAAP gross margins of 74%, plus or minus 50 basis points. These are company expectations, not realized results. The Q2 FY2027 earnings-call transcript records the guidance.
Vera Rubin and supply
Management said it expected Vera Rubin to account for about 20% of Q3 Data Center revenue. It also warned that supply could remain a bottleneck through the end of FY2028. The product ramp and the ability to deliver enough systems are therefore relevant alongside demand: strong orders do not automatically translate into revenue on the same timetable if supply is constrained.

Growth outlook and margins
NVIDIA’s preliminary expectation was for approximately 70% revenue growth in FY2028. Management also described sharply rising memory prices, expected gross margins to bottom in the 71%–72% range in Q4, and anticipated margins settling at 72%–73% in FY2028 as price increases took effect. These are management’s forward-looking estimates, not guarantees. Investors can track whether later reported results follow that expected sequence and how the Vera Rubin ramp, inventory preparation, and memory costs affect margins. The earnings-call transcript contains the outlook and qualifications.

A sharp after-hours move is a short-term market reaction, not a measure of whether a company’s longer-term outlook will be achieved. For NVIDIA, the useful comparisons are between reported revenue and the company’s prior guidance, and between its next-quarter outlook and subsequent results. Data Center growth should be read alongside supply and product-ramp timing; revenue growth alongside the forecast margin path.

Before the August report, Kiplinger’s live coverage cited analyst expectations of roughly $104 billion for Q3 revenue; another cited estimate was $104.8 billion in revenue and $2.38 per share. These were attributed pre-report estimates, not NVIDIA guidance and not current post-report consensus. They should not be compared with the $108 billion company guide as if the estimates were collected at the same time. Kiplinger’s coverage preserves that pre-report context.
CEO Jensen Huang said on the Q2 FY2027 call, “AI has reached its inflection point. It’s doing useful work. Its tokens are productive and profitable. Now, compute is revenue.” This is management’s characterization of the opportunity; the statement by itself does not independently establish demand or profitability across NVIDIA’s customers. The quote was reproduced in Kiplinger’s August 27 coverage.
