“Instant funding” usually describes how quickly a processor sends a payout—not instant settlement of the card transaction. For U.S. merchants, the verified examples here range from a qualifying next-day payout to a paid instant transfer; conventional settlement can take longer. The available terms do not support a reliable ranking of nine providers, so this guide compares the documented options and explains what to check before choosing one.
What “instant funding” means
A card payment moves through several stages, and each has its own clock:
- Authorization: The card issuer approves or declines the transaction. Approval does not mean the proceeds are settled or available to spend.
- Capture: The merchant submits an approved transaction for processing.
- Settlement: The card transaction moves through the payment networks and the processor’s settlement process.
- Payout initiation: The processor makes a balance available or sends funds to the merchant’s bank using its payout schedule or a faster transfer option.
- Bank posting: The receiving bank makes the deposit visible and usable. Its processing windows can affect when funds arrive.
As Stripe explains in its July 28, 2026 guide to same-day funding, a provider may advance funds while the underlying card batch settles. Faster ACH or real-time transfers use different mechanisms. So “instant” may refer to payout delivery, not instant card-network settlement. Stripe defines same-day funding as access to funds on the same calendar day as the transaction, but cutoffs, holds, network routing, and bank timing can affect that outcome.
When a provider advertises a speed, ask which event it measures: batch receipt, settlement, balance availability, payout dispatch, or funds posted by the receiving bank. These are not interchangeable promises.

What the documented providers offer
The details below are limited to the cited providers and terms. Stripe, Square, and Bank of America Merchant Services have documented faster-funding options in the sources cited here; Braintree provides a useful conventional-timing comparison. They are not a complete nine-provider ranking.
| Provider and scope | Documented timing or option | Cost and eligibility details | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stripe | Standard payouts use a rolling schedule; next-day and instant options are available to qualifying businesses, according to Stripe’s July 28, 2026 explainer. | No general expedited-payout fee is established in the cited material. Stripe’s Next-Day Settlement terms restrict it to enabled accounts, eligible captured transactions, supported payment methods, and supported currencies. | The legal terms say eligible funds are available within one business day, subject to delay or withholding conditions. This is not a universal guarantee for every account. Stripe Next-Day Settlement terms. |
| Square (U.S.) | Regular funds typically arrive the next business day. The support page describes a same-day transfer dispatch time; funds that do not qualify may follow the regular one-to-two-business-day path. | The cited U.S. support page lists a 1.95% fee per instant transfer. A minimum balance, transfer limits, and account-history eligibility apply. | Timing and eligibility depend on the transfer and account. These are U.S. terms from Square’s cited support page, not global terms. Square deposit options. |
| Bank of America Merchant Services | Its Merchant Help page, dated September 10, 2026, describes Same Day Funding and Standard Day Funding. | The cited page does not state a comparable fee or complete eligibility details. | Funding type is determined when the account is opened. Merchants are directed to contact the provider to learn which option applies; the page does not establish that every merchant can select same-day funding. Bank of America Merchant Services funding options. |
| Braintree (U.S.) | U.S. credit-card transactions submitted after 5 p.m. Central enter the next day’s settlement. Bank deposits typically occur two business days after successful settlement. | No instant-funding option or expedited-transfer fee is established in the cited documentation. | This is a conventional-timing baseline, not evidence of instant funding. - What event does the timing measure? Confirm whether it means settlement, funds available in a processor balance, payout sent, or bank deposit posted.
- What is the stated clock? Look for calendar day versus business day, cutoff time and time zone, and how weekends and holidays are treated.
- What will it cost? Separate the card-processing fee from any expedited-transfer charge. The cited Square page lists a 1.95% instant-transfer fee; the cited material does not establish a general expedited-payout fee for the other providers.
- Which transactions and accounts qualify? Check eligible payment methods, currencies, destination accounts, account approval or history, enrollment, minimums, and transfer limits.
- What can delay or block a payout? Cutoff misses, holidays, risk holds, disputes, incorrect bank details, outages, or unsupported recipient accounts may disrupt timing. Stripe specifically notes that cutoff times, risk holds, and cross-border routing can each delay funding independently.
Why an exact nine-provider ranking would be misleading
A useful “best” list needs comparable, current information for each provider: supported geography, payout timing, fees, cutoffs, eligibility, and exceptions. The available terms establish only a limited set of examples, and the target market in the original title is not specified. The documented examples include U.S.-specific terms for Square and Braintree; they should not be generalized to merchants elsewhere.
For context, Stripe reported 403 million U.S. Same Day ACH payments in Q1 2026, up nearly 24% year over year. That figure describes the ACH network context, not credit-card transactions or usage of instant-funding products by merchants.
