That works out to about 1.70 GTDs for every Bugatti or Rimac vehicle in the report—not quite two to one. The periods differ, and the report does not establish a shared geographic scope or identical definition of a delivery, so this is a reported comparison, not a definitive like-for-like sales result. Yahoo Autos, Jan. 9, 2026.
What the reported numbers do—and do not—show
The headline claim comes from comparing two figures in Yahoo Autos’ Jan. 9, 2026 report: 231 Mustang GTD deliveries during January through November 2025 and 136 deliveries attributed to Bugatti and Rimac combined for calendar 2025. Dividing 231 by 136 gives approximately 1.70.
That arithmetic is straightforward; interpreting it as a direct sales contest is not. The GTD count covers 11 months, while the Bugatti/Rimac figure covers a full year. The report does not demonstrate that both figures use the same geography or delivery-counting method. It also compares one Ford model with two manufacturers’ combined hypercar deliveries, not the automakers’ full vehicle ranges.
- Period: January–November 2025 for the GTD versus the full calendar year for Bugatti and Rimac.
- Measure: The cited figures are described as deliveries; neither should be confused with applications or production.
- Geography and method: A common scope and definition are not established by the report.
- Vehicle scope: One Mustang model is set against combined deliveries from two brands.
Consequently, the figures support the narrower statement that the report counted substantially more GTD deliveries in its stated period than Bugatti and Rimac deliveries combined in theirs. They do not by themselves establish that the GTD outsold those brands on a matched, global, full-year basis, or explain differences in price, buyers, or performance.

Applications, production, and deliveries are different counts
More than 7,500 applications
Ford said in May 2024 that its North American application window for the 2025 and 2026 Mustang GTD model years closed with more than 7,500 applications. An application signals interest; it is not a confirmed order, a completed sale, or a delivered car. Ford’s announcement concerns that application window, not global GTD sales. Ford, May 21, 2024.
271 units produced in 2025
A separate Ford Authority report, citing Ford production reporting, says 271 Mustang GTDs were built during calendar 2025. That is a production tally, not the 231-delivery figure reported for the first 11 months. Production and deliveries measure different points in the vehicle pipeline, and the two numbers should not be substituted for one another. Ford Authority, 2026.

231 reported deliveries
The delivery figure is the one behind the comparison headline. Yahoo Autos reported 231 GTD deliveries for the first 11 months of 2025; the available report does not supply enough detail to reconcile that count with the separate production tally or establish a common basis with Bugatti and Rimac’s combined number. Yahoo Autos, Jan. 9, 2026.
Why a Mustang is being compared with hypercar makers
The GTD is not an ordinary Mustang trim. Ford describes it as a street-legal, GT3-inspired performance car. In a September 2024 technical announcement, the company specified a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 producing 815 SAE-certified horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque, with a stated top speed of 202 mph (325 km/h). Those are Ford’s manufacturer specifications, not independent test findings. Ford, Sept. 16, 2024.

That positioning helps explain why GTD deliveries attract comparisons with low-volume exotic and hypercar brands. It does not make the reported delivery counts evidence that the cars compete for the same customers or offer comparable value. The numbers are volume figures, not a price, ownership-cost, or performance comparison.
Ford’s Mustang GTD Chief Program Engineer, Greg Goodall, described the aim this way: “We’ve been laser focused since day one to make Mustang GTD the first-ever supercar with world-class performance and the soul of a Mustang.” The statement is Ford’s characterization of the program, rather than an independent classification of the car. Ford, Sept. 16, 2024.

How to read the headline
“Nearly two-to-one” is a rounded description of the ratio between the two reported counts: approximately 1.70 to 1. The most important qualification is that this ratio mixes different reporting periods and lacks a demonstrated common scope and counting definition. Treat it as an eye-catching comparison reported by Yahoo Autos, not as a clean annual market-share result.
