TD Bank and PC Financial announced Ugo on November 6, 2013, as a smartphone wallet designed to combine payments with loyalty programs. The planned service would initially support TD Visa, PC Financial MasterCard and PC Plus cards on NFC-enabled BlackBerry and Android phones. The companies said commercial availability was planned for spring 2014; that announcement alone does not confirm when—or whether—the planned launch occurred.
What Ugo was meant to do
Ugo was presented as a way to bring payment and loyalty functions together in one mobile wallet. TD Bank Group and PC Financial said users would be able to pay and earn or redeem loyalty points in one tap using a compatible smartphone. The companies called it “Canada’s first open mobile wallet”; that wording was their claim in the 2013 announcement, not an independently verified ranking.
The initial plan centered on two payment cards and one loyalty program: TD Visa, PC Financial MasterCard and PC Plus. Loblaw was named as the first retail and loyalty partner, with PC points intended to be redeemable at Loblaw and banner locations.
How the announced service was supposed to work
Payment and loyalty in one transaction
Customers were to load eligible cards into Ugo and use an NFC-enabled phone at participating locations. The stated aim was to combine payment with earning or redeeming PC points rather than treating payment and loyalty as separate steps. In the announcement, President’s Choice Financial president Barry Columb described using a PC Financial MasterCard while earning and redeeming PC points in a single tap at Loblaw or banner stores. That quote described the intended experience, not an independent assessment of real-world performance.
Supported phones and technology
The announcement said Ugo would use near-field communication (NFC) and initially work on NFC-enabled BlackBerry and Android phones. Other platforms were described as possible additions in later releases, not as launch-day support. The release also referred to security features associated with the cards and additional mobile-wallet security features, but did not establish current security practices or present-day compatibility.
What was planned—and what the announcement did not establish
TD and PC Financial named spring 2014 as the planned commercial availability date. This was a forward-looking target in the November 2013 announcement, not confirmation that Ugo became commercially available on that date.

The companies described additional major partners, debit and gift cards, more loyalty programs and product offers as future possibilities. Those items should not be read as features available at launch. The announcement identifies Loblaw as the first retailer and PC Plus as the named loyalty integration; it does not establish broad merchant or program coverage.
What UGO Mobile Solutions reported in 2015
In a release dated October 23, 2015, UGO Mobile Solutions said that more than 100,000 customers had signed up and more than 250,000 cards had been added to Ugo wallets in less than a year. These are company-reported historical figures, not independently verified market measurements.

The same release said features added during the preceding two quarters included storage for multiple loyalty cards and the ability to store, redeem and electronically receive gift cards. It characterized Ugo as a digital wallet app combining payment, loyalty and gift cards. This later company account documents reported additions at that time; it does not establish whether the service remains active, whether an app is currently available, or what devices and partners it supports today.

The cited announcements establish what TD, PC Financial and UGO Mobile Solutions said at the time. They do not establish Ugo’s present-day status, current app-store availability, current device compatibility, or whether its announced partners and features remain available. For that reason, Ugo is best understood here as a historical Canadian mobile-wallet announcement rather than a currently verified payment option.
