Snow White (2025): Budget, Box Office and What Break-Even Would Take

Disney’s live-action Snow White grossed about $205.7 million worldwide, while The Numbers lists its production budget at $269.4 million. That puts reported ticket sales about $63.7 million below the listed production budget—but it does not show the film’s exact break-even point or final profit or loss. Box-office gross is not the same as money received by the studio, and the public figures do not provide a complete account of costs and other revenue.

What was Snow White’s budget?

There is no single publicly established budget figure across the sources. The Los Angeles Times reported an estimated production cost of about $250 million before marketing on March 23, 2025. The Associated Press described the budget as above $250 million. The Numbers currently lists a production budget of $269.4 million. These are source-specific reported figures, not interchangeable audited disclosures. Los Angeles Times; Associated Press; The Numbers.

The distinction matters: the Times’ estimate explicitly excludes marketing, while The Numbers labels its $269.4 million figure as production budget. Neither number, by itself, is the film’s total cost to Disney.

How did opening-weekend expectations compare with the result?

Before release, the Los Angeles Times reported a domestic opening-weekend expectation of $45 million to $55 million, based on analyst and presale estimates. The Numbers lists the actual domestic opening weekend at $42,206,415. The Associated Press reported an initial studio estimate of about $43 million domestically and a global launch of about $87.3 million. These opening figures differ slightly by source and estimate status; none is a forecast of the film’s eventual worldwide total. Los Angeles Times; The Numbers; Associated Press.

Did Snow White break even?

The Numbers’ listed production budget exceeds its worldwide gross by about $63.7 million. This is a direct comparison of two reported figures: $269.4 million in production budget and $205.7 million in worldwide ticket sales. It is not a calculation of the film’s loss.

A theatrical gross is not equivalent to studio revenue. Theaters retain a share of ticket sales, and the sources cited here do not disclose a complete film-specific ledger covering marketing, distribution costs, revenue returned to Disney, or income from later viewing and other channels. Without those figures, an exact break-even gross or ultimate profit-and-loss result cannot be established from the public numbers cited here. The defensible conclusion is narrower: reported worldwide gross was below The Numbers’ listed production budget, before marketing.

Why the opening forecast and break-even question are different

The $45 million to $55 million figure was a pre-release forecast for the domestic opening weekend. It described expected ticket sales in one market over a few days. The $205.7 million figure is The Numbers’ reported worldwide theatrical gross across the film’s run. Neither figure is a break-even threshold: that would require knowing the studio’s retained receipts and full costs, not just gross box office or production budget.

The release also carried industry-wide significance beyond Disney. In the March 23, 2025 Los Angeles Times article, Boxoffice Co. senior vice president Daniel Loria said the industry had been expecting a stronger first quarter. That observation offers context for the release period, not a film-specific financial analysis or explanation of the movie’s result. Los Angeles Times.
