Bluevine, Mercury, Relay, Found, Grasshopper, American Express, Axos and nbkc are eight online options with enough current comparison information to describe here. Rho and Brex also appear in a broader comparison shortlist, but their terms are not established in the available information, so they cannot be responsibly ranked as two more “best” picks. A branch-based Chase account is included separately for businesses that need cash handling or in-person banking.
This is a terms-based comparison, not a ranking from account testing. The fee and feature descriptions reflect terms and information available on October 4, 2026; rates and provider terms can change. NerdWallet’s comparison supplies several of the figures below, while provider pages supply feature descriptions for Bluevine, Mercury, Relay and Found. Check the current account agreement, fee schedule and eligibility rules before applying.

Eight online accounts with a clear use case
1. Bluevine Business Checking: a broad online-checking candidate
NerdWallet’s October 2026 comparison lists $0 monthly fees and 1.30% APY on balances up to $250,000, subject to terms. It also reports up to $3 million in deposit coverage through Insured Cash Sweep. Treat both the rate and coverage as conditional account terms, not blanket promises. Bluevine’s product description lists invoicing, ACH and wire receipt, payment links and international payments. Fee-free cash deposits are unavailable according to NerdWallet, and out-of-network ATM use may cost. Review the account agreement and the exact APY qualification rules before choosing it for interest earnings.
2. Mercury Business Account: for digitally operated startups
Mercury describes free checking and savings and says deposits are held through partner banks and sweep networks. NerdWallet positions the account for high-growth startups, reports no cash deposits, and lists free U.S.-dollar domestic and international wires. Mercury is a financial technology provider, not itself a bank; confirm which partner bank will hold your funds and how pass-through FDIC insurance applies to your account and total deposits at each bank. Businesses that regularly receive cash should look elsewhere.

Found combines online business checking with tax and bookkeeping tools, Pockets (subaccounts), payment integrations and multiple business accounts under one login. Its interest rates are attached to paid subscriptions: Found Pro is listed at $80 per month or $720 per year with 2.50% APY on all balances; Found Plus is listed at $35 per month or $315 per year with 1.50% APY on balances up to $20,000. Found says APY is variable and may change. Compare the subscription cost with the value of the included features and any interest you expect to earn; neither rate is a free-account benefit.

Why Rho and Brex are not ranked as best picks here
Rho and Brex appear among the accounts in NerdWallet’s broader online-checking shortlist, but the available details do not establish their current fees, APY, cash access, wire terms or eligibility. That is not enough to compare them fairly with the eight accounts above. Treat them as names to investigate, not recommendations based on this comparison.

Chase Business Complete Banking: for in-person cash handling
Chase Business Complete Banking is not online-only, but it is a useful comparison point if your business needs branches or regular cash handling. NerdWallet lists a $15 monthly service fee, waivable with a $2,000 minimum balance, and up to $5,000 per month in fee-free cash deposits at Chase ATMs. Include the branch network in the decision only if in-person access is worth the account’s conditions to your business.

How to choose the right business checking account
- Start with how you receive money. If you deposit cash, eliminate accounts that do not accept it or verify the exact ATM network, deposit limits and fees. An account that works for a card-and-ACH business may be a poor fit for a cash-heavy shop.
- Calculate the cost beyond the monthly fee. Check ATM, wire, cash-deposit, returned-item and optional software charges. A $0 monthly fee does not mean every transaction or service is free.
- Evaluate APY against its conditions. Record the qualifying balance, activity requirements and subscription cost, then compare those conditions with your actual expected balance and use. Variable rates can change.
- Check payment and accounting workflows. Confirm that the account supports the ACH, wire, invoicing, payroll and accounting connections you need. For shared access, review role permissions and current plan limits before inviting staff or an outside bookkeeper.
- Identify who holds the deposits. When a fintech offers the account, identify the bank or banks where funds are placed and read the pass-through insurance terms. FDIC coverage is subject to applicable conditions and limits; a stated sweep-network maximum is not automatically the amount every customer will receive.
- Confirm eligibility before planning a switch. Providers may exclude certain entity types, industries or applicants. Read the current application criteria and account agreement rather than assuming a business can qualify because the product is marketed to small businesses.
What to verify before opening an account
- Current monthly, transaction, ATM, cash-deposit, wire and returned-item fees.
- APY, qualifying balance and activity rules, whether the rate is variable, and any subscription required.
- Cash-deposit and ATM locations, network compatibility, limits and refund conditions.
- Eligibility for your business structure and industry.
- The bank holding deposits and the conditions for any pass-through FDIC coverage.
- Current team permissions, account/card limits and integration availability for your plan.
