Kelly Clarkson sold HarbourView Equity Partners a portion of her music catalog, but the public announcement does not say which rights changed hands, what percentage HarbourView acquired, or how much it paid. The deal is therefore a partial catalog acquisition—not evidence that HarbourView bought all of Clarkson’s music or every right to her songs.

What did HarbourView acquire?

HarbourView announced a strategic partnership with Clarkson and said it acquired a portion of her “life’s works.” It named five songs as examples associated with the acquisition: “Since U Been Gone,” “Because of You,” “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You),” “Behind These Hazel Eyes,” and “Underneath the Tree.” The announcement does not provide a complete list of works covered by the deal. Those song titles identify examples, not a full inventory of the acquired catalog. Nor do they establish that HarbourView now owns every composition, recording, or future-use right connected to those songs.

What remains undisclosed?

Rolling Stone Australia reported on July 25, 2025, that Clarkson and HarbourView had not disclosed the rights involved, the percentage acquired, or the price. Rolling Stone Australia’s report

  • Rights package: The public reporting does not specify whether the deal covers publishing, master recordings, other royalty interests, or some combination.
  • Stake size: No percentage or share of the catalog was disclosed.
  • Purchase price: No transaction amount was disclosed.
  • Complete list of works: The announcement names selected songs but does not enumerate all works included.

Without those terms, it is not possible to calculate a valuation, estimate Clarkson’s retained share, or determine how the deal affects income from particular recordings or compositions.

Why the word “stake” matters

A catalog can involve different assets and income streams, including rights in compositions and recordings. A transaction described as a stake in a catalog does not, by itself, identify which of those interests transferred or whether the artist retained an interest. In Clarkson’s case, the company described a portion of her works, while the cited reporting says the rights and share were not disclosed. It would be inaccurate to present the deal as a sale of all her masters, all publishing rights, or her entire body of music.

What Clarkson and HarbourView said

Clarkson described the music as part of her personal as well as professional journey, saying, “Knowing these songs will continue to be heard and discovered by new generations means everything to me. I’m grateful to HarbourView for valuing and supporting this catalogue the way they do.” HarbourView’s announcement

HarbourView founder and CEO Sherrese Clarke called Clarkson “a one-of-a-kind artist whose voice and songwriting have left a mark on music and pop culture.” The company also characterized the catalog as “filled with anthems that have defined moments for millions of people.” These statements explain the parties’ public framing, but they do not disclose the financial or legal terms.
