What CEN 08/2024 announced
The Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) published Centralised Employment Notice CEN 08/2024 on 22 January 2025 for various posts in Level 1 of the 7th Central Pay Commission pay matrix. The detailed notice listed 32,438 vacancies and initial pay of ₹18,000. These are figures in the notification, not a count of applicants or of people ultimately appointed. “RRB Group D” is a common search phrase for this recruitment, but the formal notice is for various Level 1 posts. It should not be confused with a later Level 1 recruitment cycle such as CEN 09/2025.
Application dates and current status
The application period ran from 23 January 2025 at 00:00 through 22 February 2025 at 23:59. The original notice set 24 February 2025 as the fee-payment deadline and 25 February–6 March 2025 as the correction window. These deadlines have passed, so CEN 08/2024 is not accepting new applications through that window.

The official CEN page lists an application-status notice, CBT notices and an exam responses/objection tracker dated 17 February 2026. A revised schedule dated 23 December 2025 set CBT dates for 8–9 January and 2–6, 9–10 February 2026. Those notices establish the published exam schedule and listed process updates; they do not by themselves establish a final selection or result. Age limit and eligibility
Age reference and relaxation
The notice summary stated an age range of 18–36 years as of 1 January 2025. It also provided a one-time three-year relaxation to the upper age limit in view of pandemic-related recruitment disruption, in addition to applicable category-based rules. Do not treat the summary range as a complete personal eligibility decision: the detailed notice’s rules and the candidate’s category and circumstances matter.
Qualifications, medical standards and vacancies by post
Eligibility varies with the post. The detailed notice and its annexures contain educational qualifications, medical standards, suitability information and railway- and post-wise vacancy details. The notification also says vacancies may be revised. Check the relevant annexures rather than relying on the headline vacancy count or general age summary to determine eligibility for a particular post.
What candidates should do next
- For a CEN 08/2024 application or exam update, use the official RRB website for your region and follow its current notices.
- Keep the CEN number clear when checking status: CEN 08/2024 is distinct from subsequent Level 1 notices, which have their own dates, vacancies and eligibility rules.
- Use the official detailed notice for post-specific qualification and medical criteria; do not assume that a general summary covers every post.
Use official channels and avoid recruitment scams
RRB Chandigarh advises candidates to rely on official RRB websites and warns: “Beware of touts & job racketeers trying to deceive by false promises of securing job in Railways either through influence or by use of unfair means.” The page says selection is based on CBT merit. Treat claims that someone can secure a railway appointment through influence or payment with suspicion, and verify any recruitment update on an official RRB site.
