Boeing St. Louis Strike: What Happened and When It Ended

The Boeing St. Louis-area strike ended on November 13, 2025, when IAM District 837 members ratified a five-year contract. The walkout began August 4, 2025; the August report that negotiations were paused until after Labor Day described an earlier stage of the dispute, not its current status.

When did the Boeing St. Louis strike end?

IAM District 837 announced ratification of the new contract on November 13, 2025. The Associated Press reported that 68% of voting members approved it, with a 24% wage increase over the five-year agreement and a $6,000 signing bonus. AP described the walkout as lasting 101 days. These figures are from AP’s account of the union announcement.

The agreement followed earlier bargaining developments, but neither a September union proposal nor an October return-to-work document alone marked the definitive end. The ratification announcement supplies that date.

Who was on strike, and where?

Approximately 3,200 IAM District 837 members walked out at Boeing facilities in St. Louis and St. Charles, Missouri, and Mascoutah, Illinois, according to the union. IAM said the members built or maintained defense products including the F-15EX, F/A-18, T-7A, MQ-25, and future F-47.

What did “paused until after Labor Day” mean?

In August 2025, Boeing Defense put negotiations on hold until at least after Labor Day, according to union officials cited by Reuters. That was a pause in bargaining, not an end to the strike. The walkout continued while the parties pursued a settlement.

On September 26, IAM said the bargaining committees had agreed to return to negotiations with a federal mediator. The union statement said they would meet “on Monday” in an effort to find a path to end the strike.

Why did the September proposal not end the strike?

In September, union members ratified a union-proposed four-year settlement offer. IAM said Boeing had not accepted that proposal, so members remained on strike. It was an interim offer, distinct from the five-year contract members ultimately approved in November.

An October 23 settlement document described terms for employees returning to work, including reinstatement of benefits upon scheduled return, return to prior shifts and job classifications, and withdrawal of related legal actions. It said return to work would begin with third shift on November 2, subject to ratification of the parties’ 2025–2030 collective bargaining agreement. The later ratification announcement confirmed the strike’s end.

What is known about costs, delays, and related legal proceedings?

The available reporting does not establish a reliable dollar figure for Boeing’s strike costs or a verified duration for defense-program delivery delays. IAM described disruptions and delayed deliveries in its September account, but no independently verified amount or timeline is established here.

The National Labor Relations Board docket for case 14-CB-349513 identifies an allegation of refusal to bargain or bad-faith bargaining and lists the case as closed, with 2026 dismissal and appeal correspondence. That docket concerns a particular case involving IAMAW 837 and Boeing; it is not a complete record of every legal proceeding related to the strike. An allegation is not, by itself, an adjudicated finding.
