A screenshot, email, or message is not proof that money has reached your account. Marketplace payment and delivery options vary, so check what is actually available for your listing and location.
How to tell whether a Marketplace payment is real
Open the payment service or financial account yourself and check its transaction history or balance. Use the service’s official app or website—not a link sent by the buyer. If the payment does not appear there as received, do not release the item or refund money based on a buyer’s claim.
- Do not rely on screenshots. An image can be altered or show a pending or unrelated transaction.
- Do not rely on emails or messages alone. A notification is not a substitute for checking the account that should receive the money.
- Wait for the account to show the funds. If status or timing is unclear, contact the payment provider through its official channel before proceeding.

Choose pickup or shipping based on the transaction available to you
Facebook says shipping may be available depending on location, and delivery is unavailable in some places. Check the choices shown for your own listing and transaction; do not assume every seller can use the same delivery or payment flow. See Facebook’s ways to sell and delivery information.

Neither option is automatically the right choice for every sale. Make the decision using the actual options and terms shown to you, and do not release an item until you have independently confirmed payment.
Review the buyer’s profile without treating it as a guarantee
Facebook provides Marketplace profiles and ratings that can offer context about a user. Review them, but do not treat a profile or rating as verified identity, proof of payment, or a guarantee that a transaction is safe. Facebook’s profile and ratings guidance explains the feature; it does not establish a safety guarantee.

Recognize pressure and protect your account
Pause if a buyer pressures you to hand over an item before you can confirm payment, or asks you to act on an unexpected payment link or refund request. These are reasons to stop and verify the transaction independently, not proof by themselves that a particular person has committed fraud. Facebook’s shopping-safety resource covers scam awareness, meetings, ratings, and reporting concerns.

What to do if something seems wrong
- Stop the handoff. Keep the item until the payment is visible in the account or provider you control.
- Verify through an official channel. Open the payment provider directly and, if needed, contact its support using details from its official app or website.
- Use Facebook’s safety tools if relevant. Consult its guidance on reporting concerns and account security rather than following a buyer’s unexpected link.
