Cisco completed its acquisition of SnapAttack on January 31, 2025, after announcing the deal on December 16, 2024. Cisco said SnapAttack’s threat detection and engineering technology and expertise would help Splunk advance its detection roadmap. The acquisition announcement described priorities—not confirmation that every planned capability has since shipped.

What Cisco acquired

Cisco described SnapAttack as a privately held company headquartered in Arlington, Virginia, with a threat detection and engineering (TD/E) platform. It said SnapAttack’s technology, intellectual property, and expertise would help Splunk accelerate its threat-detection content and engineering roadmap. Cisco’s acquisition announcement says the platform was designed to help analysts research, write, validate, and deploy detections across their technology environments.

That focus connects to Splunk Enterprise Security’s existing detection content. In its December 16, 2024 announcement, Splunk pointed to Enterprise Security Content Updates (ESCU), which provide pre-packaged, regularly updated detection content.

What Cisco said it planned to advance

Cisco identified several areas for roadmap acceleration or evaluation. They describe the intended direction of the acquisition, not a verified list of features currently available to customers.
