On August 21, 2026, Nasdaq-listed Lotus Technology Inc. completed its acquisition of all equity in Lotus Advance Technologies Sdn Bhd, the operating company it calls “Lotus UK.” Geely and Etika received shares in Lotus Technology as settlement for their interests, rather than cash. A June 2026 filing reported that Li Shufu beneficially owned 52.3% of Lotus Technology, but that dated figure does not establish the company’s exact ownership after the acquisition closed.
What happened to Lotus’s ownership?
The legal entity at the center of the transaction was Lotus Advance Technologies Sdn Bhd, not the Nasdaq-listed parent. Lotus Technology announced on August 25, 2026, that it had completed the acquisition of all of Lotus UK’s equity on August 21. The company said the consolidation would bring the British sports-car engineering and manufacturing business and its intelligent-vehicle technologies under one corporate structure. That is management’s stated rationale, not proof of what results the integration will produce. Source: Lotus Technology closing announcement, August 25, 2026.
Lotus Technology is the listed parent that acquired Lotus UK. The transaction therefore moved the operating business under Lotus Technology; it did not make Geely the direct owner of 100% of the listed company.
How the Geely and Etika transaction worked
The acquisition followed put-option agreements made in January 2023. Under the terms described in Lotus Technology’s April 2026 Form 20-F, the options could be exercised if the Lotus UK group sold more than 5,000 vehicles in 2024. That condition had been met by December 31, 2024. Geely HK exercised its option for its 51% interest on April 14, 2025; Etika exercised its option for its 49% interest on June 30, 2025. The share settlement occurred on June 10, 2026. Geely HK received 24,477,676 Lotus Technology ordinary shares and Etika received 23,517,767 shares, transferred by Lotus Group International Limited. The parties that had held Lotus UK equity thus became shareholders in Lotus Technology as part of the deal. Source: Lotus Technology filing on the share transfers.

Does Geely still own Lotus?
That depends on which “Lotus” and which kind of relationship you mean. Lotus UK is now wholly owned by Lotus Technology. Lotus Technology itself has multiple shareholders. A June 2026 Schedule 13D/A reported that Li Shufu beneficially owned 338,624,525 ordinary shares, or 52.3% of the class, through a group of entities that included Lotus Advanced Technology Limited Partnership, Lotus Technology International Investment Limited, Geely Investment Holding Ltd, ECARX Holdings Inc. and Geely HK. That 52.3% is a reported beneficial-ownership figure from the June filing; it should not be treated as an exact post-close percentage. Etika also received Lotus Technology shares in the settlement. The available figures do not establish that Geely owns all of Lotus Technology, or that the company’s post-close ownership can be summarized by that earlier percentage.
What remains connected to Geely?
Ownership is not the only link. Lotus Technology’s 2026 Form 20-F says its EV lifestyle models are manufactured through a contract-manufacturing partnership using Geely Holding’s Wuhan facilities. That is an ongoing operating relationship, separate from the transfer of Lotus UK equity. The filing identifies the Eletre and Emeya among the lifestyle vehicles. It also says Lotus Technology unveiled its first PHEV hyper-SUV, For Me (called Eletre X in Europe), in China in March 2026. Source: Lotus Technology Form 20-F, filed April 28, 2026.

The same filing reports that Lotus Technology delivered 6,520 vehicles in 2025, combining lifestyle vehicles and Lotus-brand sports cars distributed through LTIL. This is a company-reported total for 2025, not a measure of Geely’s ownership or a post-acquisition delivery figure.

- “Geely sold Lotus for cash” is misleading. The transaction followed previously agreed put options, and Geely HK received Lotus Technology shares as settlement.
- “Geely owns 100% of Lotus” is also misleading. Lotus UK is wholly owned by Lotus Technology, but the listed parent has multiple shareholders, including Etika after the settlement.
- “Geely still has a major role” is supportable with qualifications. A June 2026 filing reported Li Shufu’s beneficial ownership at 52.3%, and Lotus Technology’s Form 20-F describes a manufacturing partnership using Geely Holding’s Wuhan facilities. The filing’s ownership figure is dated and is not an exact post-close percentage.
Lotus Technology CEO Qingfeng Feng described the rationale in the August 25 closing release: “Lotus is one brand and one strategy, and from today it is one business.” That is the company’s characterization of the integration, not independent evidence of its future performance.
