For the 2017 data-breach settlement, the FTC lists [email protected] and [email protected] as legitimate addresses. A separate Equifax Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) Litigation settlement has its own notice process and deadlines in 2026; the older sender list does not verify messages about that case. Don’t click an unexpected email’s links as your only check: go to the relevant official site yourself.
First, identify which Equifax settlement the email names
Two different matters can be described as an “Equifax settlement.” Their deadlines, official websites and sender guidance are not interchangeable.

Which email addresses are listed for the 2017 breach settlement?
The FTC says legitimate emails about the 2017 data-breach settlement come from [email protected] or [email protected]. That guidance applies to the breach settlement, not to every email that mentions Equifax or to the separate FCRA Litigation case. FTC settlement information
The settlement administrator’s FAQ adds context for specific messages. It says an email from [email protected] about activating or switching a claim-payment selection is legitimate when it identifies itself as a communication from JND Legal Administration, the court-appointed administrator. For prepaid-card payments, the FAQ names [email protected] and [email protected] as sender addresses. It gives 1-833-759-2982 for checking whether a prepaid-card payment was issued. Administrator FAQ

What if the email is about the 2026 FCRA Litigation settlement?
The FCRA Litigation settlement is separate from the 2017 breach case. Its official site says the court preliminarily approved the settlement and authorized notice by email and U.S. mail to settlement-class members. The case concerns information Equifax may have reported to a third party between March 17 and April 8, 2022, affected by a server coding issue. The official pages establish the site and notice process, but not one universal notice sender address. The settlement is proposed, not a guaranteed payment. The official site says payment depends on court approval, a valid and timely claim, and the settlement becoming final and effective. Official settlement site

How to verify an Equifax settlement email safely
- Read the case name and issue. A message about personal information exposed in the 2017 breach is not the same case as a notice about the 2022 FCRA reporting-code issue.
- Type the relevant official address into your browser. For the breach settlement, use EquifaxBreachSettlement.com. For the FCRA Litigation settlement, use EquifaxFairCreditReportingSettlement.com. Don’t rely on a link in an unexpected message as your only way to reach the site.
- Use an independently reached contact channel. For questions about the breach settlement, the FTC lists 1-833-759-2982. The administrator FAQ also gives this number to check whether a prepaid-card payment was issued. FTC settlement information Administrator FAQ
- Stop if an unexpected message asks for payment credentials. The FTC says settlement credit monitoring is free and warns that an unsolicited request for credit-card or bank-account numbers to help obtain it is a scam. Do not pay to unlock a benefit or provide those details in response to such a request. FTC consumer advice
- Don’t treat familiar branding as proof. A display name, logo, claim number, polished design or reference to a real settlement cannot by itself authenticate an individual email. Check its claims through the official site or administrator.
Does a message about the 2017 settlement mean you filed a claim?
Not necessarily. An email that mentions the settlement does not, by itself, establish that you submitted a claim or qualify for a benefit. The claim deadline for that case has passed, although the FTC says the administrator continues to review and issue benefits for some claims. If you are unsure whether a payment or claim communication is genuine, check with the administrator through the FTC-listed number or the official settlement site rather than replying to the message.
