A declined Google Pay Flex SBI Card payment can be caused by a blocked card, a reached transaction limit, insufficient available credit, or a merchant or payment type that does not accept the card. First identify how you tried to pay, then check the matching settings and card status. If the decline appears account-specific—or the transaction was charged—contact SBI Card, which can review the authorization.
First, identify the type of payment that failed
The right checks depend on whether you were paying an online merchant, paying a merchant or biller in Google Pay, scanning a UPI QR code with the RuPay credit card, or tapping your phone at a contactless terminal. A check for NFC or a default tap-to-pay card will not explain every online or UPI decline.

- Merchant or biller payment: Google says credit cards can be used for merchant and biller payments.
- Payment to a person: Credit cards cannot be used for peer-to-peer transfers, such as sending money to friends or family. Use a supported payment method instead.
- RuPay credit card on a UPI QR: The merchant must accept RuPay Network credit cards or UPI QR payments. Google’s Flex guidance says to confirm that the merchant accepts them.
- Contactless tap: Check the phone’s NFC and contactless setup, as described below.
Google’s guidance on credit and debit card payments is available in Fix problems with credit or debit card payments on Google Pay.

#1 Best Overall
- No returns and no refunds on gift cards. Good for use on the US Google Play Store only. Terms apply - see below.
- Google Play gift codes can be used on the Google Play Store, the official app store for Android, to purchase apps, games, and more.
- To redeem, enter code in the Play Store app or play.google.com.
- Endless games to explore: Find and play old and new favorites – from mind-bending puzzles to epic quests and more.
- Just the app you’re looking for: Millions of apps means millions of ways to get things done, learn something new, and maybe even meet someone special.
- Is the card blocked? A blocked card may be shown on the Flex homepage. If it is blocked or closed, contact SBI Card rather than repeatedly retrying.
- Have you reached a transaction limit? Check whether the transaction exceeds the applicable limit.
- Is there enough available credit? Review the available credit for the card; a payment can fail if there is not enough to cover it.
- Does the merchant accept this payment? For a RuPay credit-card UPI payment, verify that the merchant accepts RuPay Network credit cards or UPI QR payments.
These checks narrow down common causes, but they do not identify every possible issuer decision. Google’s Flex help does not provide a complete SBI decline-code list, so SBI Card may need to inspect the account and transaction to determine the specific reason.
If Google Pay reports a card acceptance or technical error
For an error while adding or accepting a card, confirm that the card is supported and that the card information was entered correctly. If Google identifies a technical issue, its guidance is to try again after 2–4 hours. Waiting may help with a temporary technical problem, but it does not guarantee that an issuer decline will clear.

Google also explains that cards may be blocked if a newly issued card is not activated within the stipulated time, or if a card has never been used for online or contactless payments within the stipulated time. This is Google’s explanation in its general card-payment guidance of an RBI directive; it is not a determination of your card’s current status. Check with SBI Card if you think this may apply.
For a contactless tap, check the phone and card setup
Use these checks only when the declined payment was a tap-to-pay transaction. Google’s Fix problems with contactless payments guidance lists the following setup requirements:

Google’s Flex page lists SBI Card support as 1800 180 1290 and [email protected]; confirm current contact details on the official SBI Card channels before using them.
If the issue is limited to Google Pay setup rather than the card account, use Google Pay Help. For account status, authorization decisions, or a charged transaction, SBI Card needs to review the card and transaction.
