There was no single official “promotion prize” paid to clubs for reaching the Premier League in 2024/25. Leicester City, Ipswich Town and Southampton joined the division, where clubs received central broadcast and commercial payments; part of those payments depended on final league position. The Premier League’s published announcement does not state extractable individual totals for the three promoted clubs.
What “promotion money” can mean
The phrase can refer to several different things, and they should not be treated as one bonus:
- A promotion bonus: the official material cited here does not establish a fixed Premier League payment awarded simply for promotion.
- Central payments: Premier League clubs receive distributions from broadcast and central commercial revenues. The league announced the 2024/25 payments on 1 July 2025 and linked a graphic with club amounts, but the accessible announcement text does not give extractable totals for Leicester, Ipswich or Southampton.
- Merit payments: a component linked to a club’s final league position, rather than a fixed reward for promotion.
- Parachute payments: payments associated with relegation from the Premier League, not promotion into it.
How the 2024/25 promoted clubs compared
Leicester City, Ipswich Town and Southampton were confirmed as Premier League members for 2024/25 after promotion from the Championship. Their final positions affected the position-linked merit component.
| Club | 2024/25 finish | Individual central-payment total in the cited announcement |
|---|---|---|
| Leicester City | 18th | Not stated in accessible announcement text (Premier League, 1 July 2025) |
| Ipswich Town | 19th | Not stated in accessible announcement text (Premier League, 1 July 2025) |
| Southampton | 20th | Not stated in accessible announcement text (Premier League, 1 July 2025) |
The Premier League describes merit payments as a sliding scale based on final position. These finishing places therefore matter to that component, but the available figures do not establish the amount each club received. The league also said it committed more than £550 million to the wider game in 2024/25; that is not a promotion award or the individual central-payment total for any of these clubs.

Why a precise total cannot be given here
The official 1 July 2025 announcement confirms central broadcast and central commercial revenue payments for 2024/25, but its accessible text links to a graphic rather than transcribing the promoted clubs’ individual amounts. Without those club figures—and without a clearly defined accounting measure for any broader estimate—it would be misleading to quote a single total as their “promotion prize.”

No. Parachute payments apply after relegation and are intended to help clubs adjust financially. The Premier League’s explainer says they have been spread over three years, with the amount decreasing each year, since 2016/17. That general explainer does not provide current payment amounts and should not be used to calculate what a promoted club received.
