DCiM Solutions acquired IIS Group in 2016 and announced the combined company’s new name, Critical Environments Group (CEG), in March 2017. The rebrand was intended to signal work across mission-critical facilities beyond data centers; it was a change in corporate identity, not evidence of a sale price or of the company’s present-day status.

When did DCiM Solutions buy IIS Group?

The acquisition took place in 2016. The public announcement of the combined business and its new name followed in March 2017, so the purchase and rebrand were separate events. Contemporary coverage reported the acquisition and new identity on March 29–31, 2017; a reproduced company announcement said the CEG identity would be unveiled at Data Center World Global 2017 in Los Angeles. Data Center Knowledge and the reproduced announcement give the chronology.

Why did the combined business adopt the CEG name?

The company said “Critical Environments Group” better described a scope broader than data centers. In 2017, CEO Mike McClain—formerly DCiM’s CEO—cited computer rooms, healthcare facilities, communications networks and data centers as examples of environments where the businesses worked. The announcement also referred to distributed IT, central offices and edge computing. These were descriptions of the company’s intended scope at the time, not confirmation of services available today. Contemporary reporting covered the rationale.

What services did CEG announce in 2017?

The combined company described an infrastructure portfolio spanning facility design and data center infrastructure management (DCIM), alongside physical systems and monitoring. Its 2017 announcement listed:

What did the companies say the acquisition changed?

McClain said the combination broadened both companies’ offerings and client base. He also described CEG’s satellite offices as reaching both coasts and the southern United States, calling the combined geographic reach more expansive than either business could have achieved alone. That is qualitative company commentary: the contemporary account gives no acquisition price, office count or quantified growth measure. Data Center Knowledge reported his remarks.

What is known about CEG today?

The available record establishes the 2016 acquisition and 2017 rebrand, but does not establish CEG’s current ownership, operating status or present-day offerings. A July 2017 press release described CEG as a provider of data-center and critical-environment infrastructure optimization solutions; that historical description cannot verify the company’s current status. The July 2017 release is evidence of the company’s description at that time only.
