Mango founder Isak Andic died in December 2024 after falling during a hike in Montserrat, Spain, with his son Jonathan. Spanish authorities later reopened the case as a possible homicide investigation. Jonathan was arrested and released on bail in May 2026, but the reporting available through October 3, 2026, describes an ongoing investigation—not a finding that he caused his father’s death.
What happened to Isak Andic?
Andic died after falling during a hike in Montserrat, near Barcelona, in December 2024. His son Jonathan was with him. Reports differ on the height of the fall: the Associated Press estimated about 150 metres, while The Guardian described it as about 100 metres. Neither figure should be treated as a definitive measurement.

How did the case become a homicide investigation?
Catalan police initially concluded that Andic’s death was accidental. The case was later reopened. By October 2025, news reports said authorities were investigating it as a possible homicide. That change in the investigation’s direction is not a judicial finding about what happened or who was responsible.
What has happened in the investigation?
| Date | Reported development | Status and attribution |
| December 2024 | Isak Andic died after falling while hiking in Montserrat with Jonathan. | The Associated Press and The Guardian reported different estimates of the fall’s height. |
| By October 2025 | The case was being investigated as a possible homicide after an initial accidental assessment. | As reported by The Associated Press and The Guardian. |
| May 19, 2026 | Jonathan Andic was arrested and questioned, then released on €1 million bail. | The Guardian reported that he was required to remain in Spain, surrender his passport, and appear before the judge weekly. These are procedural conditions, not a determination of guilt. |
| May 26, 2026 | Jonathan said he was stepping aside from his vice-president responsibilities at Mango and denied the allegation in an open letter to staff. | Euronews reported the statement. |
| June 2026 | The investigating judge ordered further witness testimony and a forensic reconstruction of the fall. | The case was described as open in the June report. |
| September 28, 2026 | The defence asked for witnesses to contest an alleged financial motive. | EL PAÍS reported the defence request and the possible-motive theory attributed to investigators and the judge. The reported positions remain competing arguments in an unresolved case. |
| October 3, 2026 | A report discussed Mango’s business performance amid attention surrounding the investigation. | EL PAÍS did not report a final ruling or case outcome. |
What is the reported financial-motive theory?
Reporting by EL PAÍS on September 28, 2026, described a possible financial motive attributed to investigators and the judge. The same report said the defence sought witness testimony to contest that theory. The available reporting does not establish that a financial motive existed, and the company’s business performance is not evidence about the circumstances of Andic’s death.

What have Jonathan Andic and his family said?
In an open letter to Mango staff reported by Euronews on May 26, Jonathan denied the allegation, writing: “I write these words with sincerity and humility, from the pain, helplessness and frustration of finding myself faced with a narrative of alleged guilt that does not correspond to reality.” That is his statement, not an independent determination of the facts.
The Guardian reported that a family spokesperson said the family would respect the investigation and continue cooperating with authorities, and expressed confidence that “Jonathan Andic’s innocence will be proved.” The statement reflects the family’s position; it does not resolve the case.
