In February 2025, Acer CEO Jason Chen forecast a default 10% increase in U.S. PC prices, including laptops, to reflect tariffs on goods imported from China. It was a forecast—not confirmation that every Acer laptop rose by 10%—and the sources cited here do not establish what happened to prices for individual models afterward.
What Acer’s CEO said about prices
In an interview with The Telegraph reported on February 18, 2025, Chen said Acer expected to pass the tariff cost on to customers. Ars Technica quoted him saying, “We will have to adjust the end user price to reflect the tariff,” and that a 10% increase “probably will be the default price increase.” Ars Technica’s February 2025 report and Tom’s Hardware’s coverage described this as Acer’s expected response to the new 10% U.S. import tariff on Chinese goods discussed at the time.
The wording matters: Chen described 10% as the likely default, not as a price change confirmed for every product. The statement was about Acer’s expected U.S. pricing in that 2025 tariff context; it should not be read as a notice of a new increase in 2026 or as a description of today’s tariff rates.
When the forecast was expected to affect shoppers
The February report said prices were not expected to change immediately for products shipped from China before the tariff took effect. The impact was expected to show up as later shipments arrived, rather than applying retroactively to stock already in transit.

In May 2025, Acer added that tariff effects could differ according to where a product was made, when it arrived in the United States, and negotiations with retailers and commercial or education customers. Laptop Mag reported Acer’s qualification. That helps explain why a company-wide default estimate did not necessarily translate into the same price change for every model or sale.
What a 10% increase would mean in dollars
Ars Technica illustrated the forecast against a PC price range of $200 to $3,800, spanning Chromebooks to gaming laptops. Applying 10% to those endpoints produces increases of about $20 and $380, respectively. These are arithmetic examples based on that cited range—not observed Acer price changes or predictions for a particular laptop.

Did Acer prices actually rise by 10%?
The cited coverage establishes what Acer forecast and the variables it later said could affect pricing. It does not provide a model-by-model audit showing that U.S. Acer laptop prices actually rose by 10%. The forecast alone therefore cannot establish the price a shopper paid for a particular configuration.
For a specific laptop, compare the same model and configuration over time, and note whether the listing is for existing inventory or a later shipment. A current price cannot be inferred from the February 2025 estimate alone.

Why some Acer deals may have been treated differently
In reporting about channel sales, Acer channel chief Philip Burger said certain large deals already in progress would not be marked up as tariffs increased. CRN’s account concerns those deals, not a guarantee that consumer retail prices stayed unchanged. It is another reason not to treat the 10% forecast as a uniform outcome across all purchases.
