Bollywood stars diversify beyond film pay in several distinct ways: operating production companies, building consumer brands, taking stakes in startups, buying property and owning sports franchises. These activities can create business income or ownership exposure, but the available reporting does not establish comparable returns or a consistent picture of each star’s stake. A reported investment, a brand endorsement and an estimated fortune are not the same thing.
What diversification can mean for a film star
“Diversifying” covers different kinds of activity, with different risks and ways of earning money. A production company operates in entertainment; a consumer brand sells products; a startup investment gives exposure to a young company; property may be held for use, rent or resale; and a sports franchise is an ownership interest in a team business.
| Business model | How it may generate value | What the examples establish |
|---|---|---|
| Operating entertainment company | Revenue from producing and distributing content or related business activity. | Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment is cited as part of his reported business activity; the cited reporting does not break out its returns. Moneycontrol |
| Consumer brand | Product sales and, depending on the ownership arrangement, proceeds from a stake sale. | Alia Bhatt founded Ed-a-Mamma; ET Now reports that Reliance Retail Ventures acquired a 51% majority stake in 2023. ET Now |
| Startup or private-company stake | Potential growth in the value of the stake or eventual proceeds if it is sold; neither outcome is guaranteed. | Moneycontrol lists several consumer-business exposures associated with Deepika Padukone’s KA Enterprises, but a media portfolio list is not an audited holdings disclosure. Moneycontrol |
| Real estate | Use, rent or possible resale; a transaction price alone does not show profit. | Hindustan Times reports purchases and sales involving stars and their families, but transaction values are not personal returns. Hindustan Times |
| Sports franchise | Ownership exposure to a sports business, potentially including operating or commercial revenues. | Moneycontrol recounts the reported 2008 purchase of Kolkata Knight Riders for ₹100 crore; that historical price is not a current valuation. Moneycontrol |
Reported examples across brands, startups and entertainment
Deepika Padukone: an investment entity and consumer businesses
Moneycontrol describes KA Enterprises as Deepika Padukone’s investment entity and lists exposure to consumer businesses including Epigamia, Supertails, Atomberg and Blue Tokai. That illustrates how a celebrity’s business activity may extend into companies outside film. The report does not, however, establish the size of each stake, the terms of any investment or the performance of the holdings; it should be read as media reporting, not a complete audited portfolio.
Alia Bhatt: a consumer brand with a majority-stake deal
Ed-a-Mamma offers a different model: a celebrity-founded consumer brand that attracted a large retail partner. ET Now reports that Reliance Retail Ventures acquired a 51% majority stake in 2023. The stake sale is a concrete corporate event, but it does not by itself disclose what Bhatt personally received or how much profit the business generated over its life.

Shah Rukh Khan: production, sport and property
Moneycontrol’s account of Shah Rukh Khan’s reported business activity spans Red Chillies Entertainment, the Kolkata Knight Riders and real estate. The combination shows how an operating entertainment business, sports ownership and property can sit alongside a film career. The same article estimates his business empire at ₹7,300 crore in 2026; this is the outlet’s estimate, not an audited personal net-worth figure, and the article does not provide a complete valuation method.
Property figures need careful reading
Celebrity real-estate coverage often reports the value of a purchase or sale, but that figure is not the same as investment gain, current portfolio value or money received by one individual. Hindustan Times reports that Amitabh Bachchan transacted nearly ₹140 crore in real estate in 2025. The figure describes transaction activity, not a profit calculation.

The same outlet reports that the Kapoor family sold Andheri land for ₹855 crore in May 2025. That is a family property sale; the report does not establish that the full amount belonged to or accrued to any one actor. Separately, Hindustan Times describes an industry outlook in which commercial purchases are forecast in the ₹5 crore to ₹20 crore-and-above segment, while residential purchases for personal use are often above ₹100 crore. Those figures are an outlook, not a count of deals or a measured market statistic.
Abhishek Bachchan’s Mumbai property holdings have been estimated at about ₹219 crore, according to Square Yards data cited by The Economic Times in 2026. This is a third-party estimate, not an audited statement of his property portfolio.

How Abhishek Bachchan describes his investment approach
At the ET Now Global Business Summit 2026, Abhishek Bachchan said that personal use and belief in a product influence which investments interest him: “A lot of my investing, the products that interest me are predominantly of the fact that I use them or not and that’s generally been that starting point for me,” as quoted by The Economic Times.
He also described discomfort with endorsing products he does not use, saying: “I understand that as a film actor, it is part and parcel of the job, you are an actor, you endorse a brand, you leverage your celebrity status to whatever degree, but for me I find it uncomfortable and unnatural and almost deceitful if I actually don’t use the product.” The distinction matters: an endorsement is a paid promotional relationship, while founding a company or investing in it involves a different kind of business exposure.

The Economic Times reports that Bachchan has discussed property, startups and sports ventures as parallel interests. His comments describe his own approach, not a formula for other investors. He offered entrepreneurs this advice, also quoted by the outlet: “If you can’t afford it yourself, don’t get into it.”

The examples show different business models, not a ranking of who invested best. A meaningful comparison of returns would require at least the amount and date of each investment, the stake owned, any income or additional capital contributed, and the value or proceeds at exit. The cited coverage does not provide those details consistently across the stars and businesses.
Quick Recap
Best Value
- It can be a gift option
- Comes with secure packaging
- Helpful in various ways
- A company or brand name does not, by itself, reveal whether a star founded it, owns a stake, operates it or simply endorses it.
- A media estimate of an “empire” or property portfolio is not equivalent to audited net worth or a disclosed balance sheet.
- A purchase or sale value is a transaction amount, not proof of profit or personal proceeds.
- The available reporting is stronger on production companies, brands, property and sports than on celebrity ownership stakes in OTT streaming platforms. It does not support claims that these stars own or invested in particular streaming services.
