The Facebook User Privacy Settlement administrator’s latest published update says a second payment distribution was expected to begin in June 2026 and last about four weeks. That update was last revised May 27, 2026, so it does not confirm that checks or email notices are going out now, on October 4, 2026. Check the administrator’s official site for a current status before treating a message as a payment notice.

Which Facebook settlement is this?

This is the $725 million Facebook User Privacy Settlement, In re: Facebook, Inc. Consumer Privacy User Profile Litigation, Case No. 3:18-md-02843-VC, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. It is not a new Meta, data-breach, or securities settlement. The official settlement administrator’s site identifies the case and provides its updates.

Are Facebook settlement checks going out now?

The administrator says the first benefit distribution began in September 2025 and was completed. It also says the court approved a second distribution on May 6, 2026, which was expected to start in June and continue for about four weeks. The site’s footer says it was last updated May 27, 2026. Those published dates do not establish whether the second round finished or whether payments are being sent in October.

For the latest status, open the administrator’s site directly rather than relying on a forwarded message or an old article. The administrator’s public update does not verify any individual email or payment.

Who qualified, and can you still file a claim?

The class covered people in the United States who used Facebook from May 24, 2007, through December 22, 2022, inclusive. The claim deadline was August 25, 2023, and has passed. The settlement is not accepting new claims in 2026. Eligibility and deadline details appear on the administrator’s official site.

How to check where your payment should go

  1. Find your original claim confirmation or a saved copy of the claim form. Check the payment method you selected when you submitted it.

  2. Compare that selection with the channel named in the notice. The administrator says online claims were paid using the method chosen on the claim form; paper claims were paid by check. AARP lists electronic options including direct deposit, PayPal, Venmo, and prepaid Mastercard.

  4. If the notice does not match your original selection or you cannot find your claim details, use contact information published on the official administrator’s site to ask about your own claim.

The public administrator page does not specify one verified sender email address for every payment notice. Do not treat a display name, logo, or sender address copied from a message as proof that it is genuine.

How to spot a payment scam

The administrator’s site carries a fraud alert titled “FRAUD ALERT REGARDING REQUESTS FOR SENSITIVE PERSONAL INFORMATION OR PAYMENT TO RECEIVE YOUR SETTLEMENT AWARD.” AARP also warns that scammers may pose as helpers offering to obtain class-action money. Use the administrator site reached independently and compare any notice with your own claim record and selected payment channel.

AARP’s consumer coverage of the payment options and scam risk is available at “Second Batch of Facebook Settlement Payments Have Begun.”
