It later shut down: GeekWire reported on January 10, 2025, that the company told employees it was closing immediately after acquisition talks failed. Pandion cancelled inbound packages and stopped making pickups, so its delivery network is no longer available.
What was Pandion?
Pandion was a business-to-business residential parcel delivery company founded in 2020. It aimed to give online retailers another option beyond relying solely on national parcel carriers or building their own delivery operations.
Its founder, Scott Ruffin, had founded and formerly led Amazon Air, and had also held logistics leadership roles at J.W. Logistics and Walmart. Ruffin described the problem as retailers needing alternatives to national carriers without the resources to build their own parcel capabilities. The service was aimed at retailers, not individual consumers looking to arrange a one-off shipment.
How did Pandion’s delivery model work?
Pandion coordinated the middle and final stages of residential parcel delivery. Retailer fulfillment centers handed packages to Pandion, which sorted them at its facilities and then used outside providers for the final delivery.

- Pickup and sorting: Pandion collected packages from retailer fulfillment centers and routed them through its sortation network.
- Final-mile delivery: Supply Chain Dive reported in April 2024 that Pandion used the U.S. Postal Service, regional parcel carriers and gig-economy delivery companies.
- Carrier coordination: Pandion sourced, contracted with, onboarded and managed delivery providers. Its machine-learning system selected a final-mile provider using factors including speed and reliability.
The pitch was carrier diversification without requiring each retailer to negotiate with and manage a large group of delivery companies itself. At the time, Pandion competed with national parcel companies such as UPS and FedEx, as well as Amazon.
Where did Pandion deliver, and how fast?
Supply Chain Dive reported in 2024 that Pandion’s network reached more than 80% of U.S. homes. That was a historical claim about the network at the time, not current coverage. The company had five sortation centers in the Philadelphia, Dallas, Los Angeles, Chicago and Atlanta areas. They were slated to close in January 2025 as part of the shutdown.

Expansion markets discussed in spring 2024 included Denver, Minneapolis and the Pacific Northwest; those were plans or targets, not confirmation that service launched there.
Delivery-time claims also need a date and attribution. The company website was described as presenting ground delivery in one to five days, while Pandion’s own then-live site advertised one-to-two-day e-commerce shipping. Neither window was independently verified in the cited reporting, and neither is an available Pandion service today.

Why did Pandion raise $41.5 million?
Revolution Growth led Pandion’s $41.5 million Series B, announced in March 2024. Other reported investors included Playground Global, Prologis Ventures, Bow Capital, Telstra Ventures, AME Cloud Ventures, Schematic Ventures, Proof and Sentinel Global. GeekWire’s 2024 profile said Pandion had raised $30 million in 2021.
The funding was announced as the company pursued network growth. Revolution Growth partner Kristin Gunther said Pandion made an “Amazon-like model accessible” to retailers seeking more logistics agility. The funding did not ensure the company would remain in operation: Pandion shut down less than a year after the Series B announcement.

GeekWire, citing Bloomberg, reported that Pandion’s sales could reach $220 million in 2024. That was a forecast, not confirmed realized revenue. GeekWire later estimated the company had raised about $125 million in equity over five years; that is a separate estimate of cumulative equity, not a statement of revenue or the size of the Series B.

At shutdown, GeekWire reported a network figure of more than 1 million delivery drivers. The drivers were employed by staffing agencies, not Pandion, and were expected to be assigned to other clients. That figure does not mean Pandion employed a million people or continued to operate after closing.
What happened to Pandion’s technology?
GeekWire reported that Pandion’s assets included universal-label technology intended to allow flexible delivery times, as well as machine-learning technology intended to optimize logistics for on-time delivery and lower prices. The technology could have interested a buyer, but the reporting did not establish that anyone acquired or licensed it. No post-shutdown owner is established in the cited reporting.
