Rivian R2 has a native NACS charge port, so it can connect directly to compatible Tesla Superchargers and Rivian Adventure Network chargers that offer NACS. CCS fast chargers require a compatible CCS1 DC adapter; J1772 Level 2 chargers require a separate J1772 AC adapter. Connector fit does not guarantee a station is available or suitable, so check current station details before routing a stop.
What R2’s NACS port means in practice
Rivian says all model-year 2026+ vehicles, including R2, come with a NACS port. That is the vehicle-side connector, not a guarantee of access to every charger that uses NACS: a station must be compatible and available to the vehicle.
For compatible Tesla Superchargers, R2’s native NACS connection means no connector adapter is needed. Rivian says its Adventure Network supports NACS and CCS ports; check the individual site’s connector and current availability before relying on it. Rivian’s charging information notes that access and compatibility can vary by station, vehicle configuration, and network availability.
Which adapter R2 needs for each charger
| Charger or use | R2 connection | Adapter and key detail |
|---|---|---|
| Compatible Tesla Supercharger (DC fast charging) | Native NACS port | No connector adapter is required for the native connection. Confirm station compatibility and live availability. |
| Rivian Adventure Network site with NACS | Native NACS port | No connector adapter is required for the native connection. Check the site’s current connector and availability details. |
| CCS DC fast charger | NACS vehicle port to CCS charger | Rivian says model-year 2026+ NACS-port vehicles need a compatible CCS1 DC adapter. Confirm the currently approved model for R2 before buying. |
| J1772 Level 2 AC charger | NACS vehicle port to J1772 charger | Rivian identifies a separate J1772 AC adapter for 2026+ NACS vehicles. A DC fast-charging adapter is not the solution for this AC use. |
Do not confuse R2’s CCS adapter with the older Rivian NACS adapter
The direction of conversion matters. R2’s NACS vehicle port needs a CCS1 DC adapter when the charger has a CCS connector. Rivian’s listed NACS DC adapter does the reverse: it connects a NACS DC charger plug to the CCS1 vehicle port on 2022–2025 R1T and R1S vehicles. That older adapter is not the R2-to-CCS solution. Rivian’s NACS DC adapter guide concerns the adapter for those older CCS-port vehicles; it does not establish approval details for a separate R2-compatible CCS1 adapter.
#1 Best Overall
Before purchasing an adapter, check the vehicle connector, charger connector, whether the equipment is AC or DC, and Rivian’s current compatibility listing. Rivian’s charging FAQ covers adapter questions, but the reviewed information does not identify a specific R2-compatible CCS1 adapter model or SKU.

In an article dated September 23, 2026, Rivian reported more than 70,000 EV fast chargers across more than 15,000 U.S. locations and more than 150 Rivian Adventure Network sites with over 1,100 chargers. These are Rivian’s dated network totals, not permanent counts; station locations, connectors, and availability can change.

Rivian also says that, under optimal conditions, R2 can add up to 150 miles of range in about 15 minutes at a high-powered station, and that a 10% to 80% charge can take under 30 minutes. These are the company’s published figures, not independent test results or a promise for every R2 charging session. Actual charging depends on conditions and the station.

How to plan a charging stop
- Identify the charger type. Check whether the stop is a NACS DC fast charger, CCS DC fast charger, or J1772 Level 2 AC charger.
- Match the connector to the vehicle. R2 plugs directly into compatible NACS equipment; CCS DC and J1772 AC equipment use different adapters.
- Check the live station details. Use Rivian’s current app or in-vehicle navigation and verify connector, access, and availability before depending on the stop.
- Confirm the adapter listing before purchase. For CCS charging, verify the current Rivian-approved CCS1 DC adapter for R2; do not assume an adapter listed for older R1 vehicles works in the opposite direction.
