If you have grated Pecorino Romano cheese, check its brand, product name, package size or bulk format, and date against The Ambriola Company’s recall notice hosted by the FDA. Do not eat a product that matches. The notice covers specified products sold under Ambriola, Locatelli, Member’s Mark, Pinna, and Boar’s Head—not every product from those brands.

The headline’s “highest risk category” wording needs qualification: the Ambriola notice does not classify the entire recall as Class I. A separate FDA-hosted announcement describes a Class I recall for selected items, which should not be read as a classification of every product in the wider Ambriola notice.

Which cheese products are included in the Ambriola recall?

Ambriola’s December 3, 2025 announcement says routine testing confirmed Listeria monocytogenes in select cheese products. The FDA published the company announcement on January 15, 2026. The company said the affected products were distributed to retail stores and distributors nationwide from November 3 through November 20, 2025.

Compare your product with the identifiers below. The official notice includes package photos and additional details, so use it to verify the label and date before deciding that an item matches.

Brand and product Package or format Dates listed in the notice
Locatelli Pecorino Romano Grated 4-ounce cup Expiration dates: 05/03/26, 05/10/26, 05/17/26
Locatelli Grated Pecorino Romano 8-ounce cup, floor-display shipper Production dates: 04/06/26, 04/11/26, 04/12/26, 04/15/26, 04/17/26
Locatelli Grated Pecorino Romano 8-ounce cup, regular stock Product dates: 05/05/26, 05/06/26, 05/07/26, 05/10/26, 05/12/26, 05/14/26, 05/17/26
Boar’s Head Grated Pecorino Romano 6-ounce cup 03/04/26 and 03/12/2026, as printed in the notice
Member’s Mark 1.5-pound bag 03/25/26, 03/30/26, 04/05/26
Locatelli Grated Pecorino Romano Variable random-weight/bulk 03/04/26, 03/06/26, 03/11/26, 03/13/26
Ambriola Grated Pecorino Romano Variable random-weight/bulk 02/28/26, 03/04/26, 03/11/26
Pinna Grated Pecorino Romano Variable random-weight/bulk 03/11/26
Boar’s Head Pecorino Romano Grated Bag, variable random-weight/bulk 03/03/26, 03/12/26

Dates and formats above are from the Ambriola notice. For a bulk or variable-weight purchase, check the product label and date information against the notice’s details and photos; do not assume that a brand name alone means a product is affected.

Is my Locatelli or Boar’s Head grated cheese recalled?

It is included only if the product’s name, package or bulk format, and date match an item in the Ambriola notice. The notice says no other products under Ambriola, Locatelli, Member’s Mark, Pinna, or Boar’s Head are included in this recall.

There are other, separate notices involving Pecorino Romano products. A November 24, 2025 FDA-hosted Supreme Deli announcement describes a Class I recall issued by Ambriola for selected Pecorino Romano items, including a Boar’s Head 6-ounce grated product. That limited wording does not establish a current Class I classification for all products in the wider Ambriola notice.

A November 26, 2025 Wegmans announcement concerns Locatelli Grated Pecorino Romano sold with Wegmans scale labels. It is a distinct notice; use its own product identifiers rather than treating it as part of the Ambriola product list above.

What should I do if I bought recalled cheese?

  1. Do not eat it. If the brand, product, package or bulk format, and date match the Ambriola notice, do not taste or serve the cheese.
  2. Dispose of it or return it. The company says consumers may dispose of the product or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
  3. Contact Ambriola with questions. The notice lists 1-800-962-8224, Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. ET.

As general Listeria guidance—not instructions specific to the Ambriola recall—the FDA’s separate 2026 soft-cheese incident page advises cleaning and sanitizing surfaces or containers that contacted recalled cheese. It explains that Listeria can persist under refrigeration and spread to other foods and surfaces. See the FDA’s soft-cheese incident guidance for that separate context.

What symptoms should prompt a call to a healthcare provider?

The Ambriola notice advises people experiencing possible Listeria symptoms to contact a healthcare provider. It names high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea among possible symptoms. It also notes that pregnant people and people who are frail, elderly, or immunocompromised face particular concern. The announcement said no illnesses had been reported as of December 3, 2025; it does not establish the current illness count.

What does “highest risk category” mean in this recall?

The FDA-hosted Ambriola page is a company announcement posted by the agency as a public service. It reports the test result and recall but does not label the entire Ambriola recall Class I. The FDA page says: “When a company announces a recall, market withdrawal, or safety alert, the FDA posts the company’s announcement as a public service. FDA does not endorse either the product or the company.” A separate FDA-hosted announcement uses Class I language for selected items only, so that classification should not be extended to every product listed in the Ambriola notice.
