In March 2025, reporting described a USDA plan to terminate leases for dozens of Farm Service Agency (FSA) and Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) locations. That was a plan for lease actions—not confirmation that every listed office closed. The available reporting and later USDA announcements do not establish the final outcome for each location. If you need service now, check USDA’s current contact information and service-center locator, then confirm the location directly before traveling.
What the March 2025 report said
Farm Policy News reported on March 10, 2025, that AgDaily described planned lease actions affecting 59 FSA and NRCS offices. The report broke out 36 NRCS office leases and 13 FSA county office leases, as well as FSA state locations. It discussed 11 Rural Housing Service offices separately; those are not part of the 59-office FSA and NRCS figure. These are historical figures attributed to AgDaily through Farm Policy News, not a current office-status count. Read the March 2025 report.
Reported savings were estimates
The report relayed figures attributed to the DOGE website estimating more than $9.7 million in savings from FSA state and county lease terminations, more than $19.3 million from NRCS terminations, and more than $8.6 million from Rural Housing Service terminations. These were projected savings reported at the time, not independently verified realized savings. The same report cited broader federal totals of 748 listed lease terminations, 9,587,384 square feet, and approximately $660,000 in lease savings; those totals were not USDA-only figures.
Which locations appeared on the reported lists?
The following places were named in the March 2025 reporting as locations listed for lease action. A city or territory on this historical list does not establish that its office subsequently closed, moved, or stopped providing service.

How to check whether an office serves you now
- Open USDA NRCS’s Contact Us page. It provides state office representatives and points users to the USDA Service Center/Office Locator.
- Search the locator for the service center or office you need, rather than relying only on the historical city list.
- Contact the listed office before traveling to confirm its address, availability, and the service you need. The March 2025 report does not verify present-day location details.
What officials said about the plan
In the March 2025 report, Steve Peterson, then acting deputy undersecretary for farm production and conservation, said the purpose was to evaluate savings and consider renegotiating rent or finding less expensive locations. He said terminations were expected “down the road,” allowing time to find locations, and that equipment and files would be removed and temporarily stored pending moves. Those statements describe the plan at the time; they do not confirm that every transition occurred as described.
Farm Policy News, quoting Agri-Pulse reporting, also relayed a GSA spokesperson’s statement that GSA was reviewing options to optimize its footprint and building utilization. The spokesperson said that, where terminations affected public-facing facilities or existing tenants, GSA was working with agency partners to secure suitable alternative space. The statement does not establish that replacement space was secured at every site.

What later USDA announcements do—and do not—confirm
On June 17, 2026, USDA’s NRCS announced organizational improvements across FSA, NRCS, the Risk Management Agency, and the FPAC Business Center. That announcement describes later organizational changes, but it is not a lease-by-lease status update for the locations reported in 2025. Read USDA’s June 17, 2026 announcement.
The available sources do not give a comprehensive outcome for each listed lease—whether it was terminated, renewed, renegotiated, or replaced. Treat the 2025 list as a record of reported planned lease actions, not proof of completed closures.
