It may simplify record-sharing, but it does not itself qualify a field, verify a practice, set a payment, or replace Cargill’s enrollment and contract process. Because current public materials do not confirm the exact live connection or its availability in every market, ask Cargill or a registered partner to verify the workflow for your location and program year before relying on it.
What Cargill RegenConnect offers
RegenConnect is Cargill’s voluntary regenerative-agriculture incentive program. It may compensate eligible farmers for adopting or expanding qualifying practices, and Cargill describes agronomic support, data collection, and measurement and verification as part of the program. Practices named by Cargill include cover crops and reduced tillage; other examples in program descriptions include no-till, residue management, and nutrient optimization. Qualifying practices depend on the applicable program rules, crop, location, and enrollment year. Cargill RegenConnect
“Regenerative agriculture” is not one fixed production system. The practices a farmer can use depend on the farm’s rotation, soils, climate, equipment, and the program’s requirements. Cargill describes regenerative agriculture and related programs in its regenerative agriculture overview.
What the John Deere connection changes
The July 2023 announcement described a way for farmers to enroll in RegenConnect and manage field data through Operations Center. The practical value is potentially less duplicate data entry when a farm already maintains field and work records in Deere’s platform. The announcement does not establish that a Deere account automatically enrolls a farmer, that every step occurs inside Operations Center, or that the same connection remains available in every region today. Who may be able to participate
Program eligibility depends on a Cargill partner
Cargill’s current program site says farmers need to work with a Cargill partner registered in RegenConnect; a cooperative or retailer can provide the farmer’s Cargill account number. Partner participation and program availability vary, so having an Operations Center account is not enough to establish eligibility. Ask the grain buyer, cooperative, retailer, or Cargill representative whether your operation, crop, and fields can be enrolled in the current program.
John Deere equipment is not established as a universal requirement
John Deere says Operations Center can accept data from some non-Deere equipment when displays and file formats are compatible, and supports selected third-party connections. Deere equipment with JDLink connectivity may make automatic data flow easier, but compatibility is not universal. A mixed-fleet farm may need to import files or submit records another approved way. Confirm the RegenConnect process for your equipment before assuming that data will transfer automatically. John Deere Operations Center FAQ
Geography, crops, and program year matter
Cargill has described U.S. availability in earlier program announcements, but current eligibility is partner- and region-dependent. A 2024 company announcement reported nearly 1,500 U.S. farmers and more than 1 million acres enrolled for the 2025 planting season; that is a dated company-reported milestone, not evidence of 2026 enrollment or universal availability. How the data workflow generally works
The partnership announcement does not document a current screen-by-screen workflow. John Deere’s public information explains that organizations can manage partner connections and control which partners receive data, but the live RegenConnect connection name, menu path, and supported markets should be confirmed in your account or with support. - Set up farm records. Use or create an Operations Center account and review the organization, field boundaries, equipment, and user permissions.
- Confirm the current connection. Ask Cargill or its registered partner whether a RegenConnect connection is available for your market and program year, and whether enrollment starts in Operations Center or through the partner.
- Review and authorize sharing. Check which organization is granting access, which fields and data categories are included, and whether historical records are part of the transfer.
- Maintain records and complete other requirements. A digital connection may supply some records, but Cargill may require additional information, documentation, or verification outside Operations Center.
- Wait for program review. Cargill and its program partners assess eligibility and payment under the applicable terms; data transfer alone does not guarantee either.
Operations Center accounts can be created and used at no cost, according to John Deere. Equipment, connectivity, displays, software, dealer services, or other hardware may have separate costs; the public FAQ does not provide a complete cost schedule. Deere describes JDLink as a way to transfer machine and agronomic data automatically when compatible equipment and connectivity are in place. John Deere Operations Center setup and data flow
What data may be relevant—and what to check
Depending on the program and connection, field boundaries, acreage, crop and rotation information, planting and tillage records, cover-crop establishment, residue or nutrient-management information, and possibly yield or production records may be relevant. Cargill says its program uses data collection and transparent measurement and verification and identifies Regrow as a partner for remote sensing, crop and soil-health modeling, and MRV. That does not establish that every listed data type transfers automatically from Deere. The applicable consent screen and agreement govern what is shared.
- Which fields and acreage are selected, and whether boundaries match the enrolled fields.
- Whether the connection shares historical data or only new operations.
- Whether machine location, operator, yield, or other sensitive operational records are included.
- Which parties—including Cargill, Regrow, a retailer, cooperative, or other partner—can access the information.
- How long access remains active, how to revoke it, and whether individual fields can be excluded.
John Deere says customers control partner connections and that connected software providers can access data after an organization or partner staff member establishes a connection. Review the current permissions and privacy terms rather than assuming data is anonymous, private, or never shared onward.
Enrollment, contract, and payment terms to verify
Practice changes and enrollment timing
Cargill’s current site says there is no minimum or maximum acreage requirement for practice changes and gives an enrollment window of April 15 through August 31 for yearly payment qualification. It also indicates that fields generally need a new or expanded qualifying practice rather than merely documenting a practice already in place. Confirm that these terms apply to your location, crop, and specific program year.
Private-program exclusivity
The RegenConnect FAQ says a field cannot be enrolled in another privately funded program at the same time. Government conservation payments may be stackable when the rules permit, but do not assume compatibility: check both programs’ terms for the same acres before signing.

Contract duration is not consistent across public descriptions
Cargill’s current program site describes contracts lasting three years, while Cargill’s 2024 U.S. announcement described one-year contracts. These descriptions may reflect different markets, program editions, or terms. Obtain the contract that applies to your enrollment and rely on that document—not a general webpage or an older announcement—for the duration, renewal, and exit conditions.
There is no verified universal current payment rate
Cargill’s public materials describe compensation but do not establish a single current rate for all farmers. Historical figures are not current offers: Cargill cited potential payments of $35 per metric ton of carbon sequestered per acre for the 2023–24 enrollment year, and its 2021 launch announcement cited average income increases of $52 per acre for corn growers and $45 per acre for soybean growers. Those figures should not be used as a 2026 guarantee or estimate for an individual farm. Cargill’s 2023 expansion announcement Cargill’s 2021 launch announcement

Ask for the applicable offer in writing, including how compensation is calculated, when it is paid, what happens if a modeled outcome differs from expectations, and whether payment depends on verification. Do not treat a program payment as automatically equivalent to ownership of, or revenue from, a tradable carbon credit; the contract governs the arrangement.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Verification and records to keep
Cargill says Regrow supports measurement, reporting, and verification using field data, remote sensing, and crop and soil-health modeling. A machine record can help document an operation, but it is not by itself proof that a field qualifies or that a paid environmental outcome has been verified. Missing records, mismatched acreage, or differences between farm records and modeled or remotely sensed results can require follow-up.
Keep contemporaneous copies of the records relevant to enrolled practices, such as field maps, planting and tillage dates, cover-crop seed invoices, nutrient records, and harvest documentation. Ask Cargill what evidence is required, how corrections are submitted, and how a farmer can challenge or resolve a discrepancy.

Common workflow problems
Mixed equipment or incompatible files
Different machines and displays may produce records in different formats, and some data may need to be imported manually. Deere lists wireless transfer, MyTransfer, and USB transfer among ways to bring data into Operations Center, subject to compatibility. Confirm the supported method for your equipment and retain the original records. John Deere Operations Center FAQ
Outdated boundaries or incomplete operation records
Reconcile field maps and enrolled acreage before sharing data. If operators do not record a qualifying pass or practice when it happens, machine data may not reconstruct the missing information later; maintain backup records as work is completed.
Connectivity or ownership changes
Connectivity interruptions can leave gaps in automatic transfers. Deere’s September 2023 release notes say JDLink connectivity can be turned off after an ownership-change event is not reviewed within 14 days. If equipment changes hands, confirm connectivity status and preserve records outside the platform. John Deere September 2023 release notes
Overlapping commitments
Before enrolling acres, check existing agreements with carbon programs, grain buyers, retailers, or other private initiatives. A field’s data being available in Operations Center does not resolve whether its practices can be committed to more than one program.
Questions to ask before authorizing the connection or signing
- Is RegenConnect currently available through Operations Center for my state, crop, partner, and program year?
- Does enrollment begin in Operations Center, or must I apply through a registered Cargill partner?
- Exactly what data will Cargill, Regrow, or other partners receive, and are historical records included?
- Can I exclude particular fields or data types, and how do I revoke access?
- What happens if a connection fails or a field-operation file is missing?
- Which practices qualify for these specific fields, and must they be new or expanded?
- What is the payment formula, and is it based on acreage, modeled carbon outcomes, or another measure?
- What is the contract duration and how can it be ended or renewed?
- Can these acres also receive government conservation payments?
- Are the acres already committed under another private program?
- What records must I retain, and how are verification disputes corrected?
- Who makes the final eligibility and payment decision?
When the Deere workflow is most useful
The connection is most promising for farms already keeping accurate boundaries and operation records in Operations Center, especially when connected equipment can reduce manual handling and a registered Cargill partner confirms the current integration. It is less likely to eliminate paperwork for mixed fleets, farms with incomplete digital records, or operations whose offer requires separate verification. If the partner connection is unavailable, ask whether approved manual uploads or direct partner enrollment are options.
