Melissa Kirmayer Eamer joined Kirkland, Washington-based Wyze as president and chief operating officer in June 2025, bringing nearly 20 years of Amazon Devices experience to a company known for affordable smart-home cameras. Her appointment puts an experienced hardware and operations executive inside a business balancing low upfront prices with paid cloud, AI and monitoring services. The announcement is confirmed as of June 2025; her status in August 2026 is not established by the available reporting.
What Eamer’s appointment means for Wyze
GeekWire reported on June 25, 2025, that Eamer became Wyze’s president and COO. The role gives Wyze a senior operator with experience in consumer hardware, product development, sales and large-scale operations. Eamer said she wanted to apply lessons from Amazon to help Wyze reach its next stage and scale.
That background is relevant to a company that sells connected devices at value-oriented prices while also offering software and subscription services. Scaling a hardware-and-software business means more than shipping devices: product launches, app experience, customer support, cloud costs and recurring revenue all have to work together. The appointment alone does not establish a new corporate strategy or prove that Wyze has solved those challenges.

Nearly two decades at Amazon
Before Wyze, Eamer spent nearly 20 years at Amazon and was a vice president in its Devices division. GeekWire reported that her work included Kindle and Echo product development and sales. That experience spans physical products and the services and software that help keep customers within a device ecosystem; it does not mean she ran all of Amazon Devices.

Eamer left Amazon in 2019 and subsequently served for about a year as COO of Glossier. She later founded Modern Age, a wellness and longevity clinic that was acquired in 2024, according to GeekWire. She described missing the experience of building in a startup environment after working at a large company.
Wyze’s Amazon roots and business context
Wyze was founded in 2017 by former Amazon employees Yun Zhang, Dave Crosby and Dongsheng Song. Eamer’s appointment added another senior leader with Amazon experience to a company whose founders already shared that background. The connection may bring useful familiarity with consumer devices and customer-focused product development, but a common employer does not by itself show that Wyze operates at Amazon’s scale or will reproduce its results.
GeekWire reported that Wyze raised $110 million in 2021 and ranked No. 18 on its 2025 GeekWire 200 list. Those are dated reference points, not a current valuation, profitability measure or proof of growth. In June 2025, GeekWire also described a catalog of more than 70 products; that count should not be treated as a current figure.

From low-cost cameras to a broader smart-home catalog
Wyze initially became known for inexpensive security cameras, then expanded into products including lighting, vacuums, scales, doorbells and locks. Its Bulb Cam, highlighted around Eamer’s appointment, combines a lightbulb and security camera. That sort of product illustrates Wyze’s effort to extend its camera expertise into other household use cases, though the appointment reporting does not say Eamer created or launched it.

AI features and the subscription business
GeekWire connected Eamer’s arrival with Wyze’s AI-related features, including video search, descriptive notifications and its NBD Notifications Filter, intended to suppress alerts considered unimportant. These features point toward a product proposition in which software helps customers find useful events instead of merely collecting video. They also raise practical questions about accuracy, cloud costs and customer trust. The reporting does not establish that Eamer personally led those launches.
Wyze says its cameras can be used without a paid subscription. Depending on the model, free use can include live streaming, motion detection, automations and access to local recording with a compatible microSD card. Cloud storage and advanced AI or security features may require a paid plan, and exact capabilities vary by camera. Check the model-specific terms and Wyze’s subscription FAQ before buying.

For a single camera, a one-camera plan may be the relevant paid option; households with several cameras may find an unlimited plan more economical than buying separate coverage. Wyze Home Monitoring is a separate professional-monitoring service, not simply another name for camera self-monitoring. Wyze says Home Monitoring is available in the United States and Canada; Cam Plus availability is broader for customers with a U.S. or Canadian billing address.

Eamer’s stated interests included safety and security monitoring, well-being monitoring, and making accessible devices more useful through software and AI. Based on Wyze’s product breadth and the responsibilities implied by a president/COO role, a plausible interpretation is that she could help coordinate the company’s hardware, software and service strategy. That is analysis, not an announced roadmap or a list of specific operating targets.
- Keep products affordable: Low device prices can attract buyers, but can put pressure on hardware margins.
- Make subscriptions worthwhile: Paid services can support recurring revenue, while customers may resist fees for capabilities they expect to come with an inexpensive camera.
- Manage a broad portfolio: More product categories can increase app, support and integration complexity.
- Earn confidence in AI: Alerts and search need to be useful, while false positives, cloud costs, privacy and data retention remain important customer considerations.
Experience at Amazon may help with scale and operational discipline, but a smaller, price-sensitive company faces different constraints. Wyze’s appointment announcement does not establish current privacy, security, reliability or support performance, so those should be evaluated using evidence specific to the products and services a buyer is considering.

What customers should consider
For customers, the business model matters as much as the device price. A buyer who needs live viewing and local recording may not need a subscription, while someone who wants cloud history, advanced detections, AI search or professional monitoring should compare the recurring cost and feature compatibility before choosing a camera.
Wyze competes in a market that includes Amazon’s Ring and Blink brands, Google Nest, Apple-compatible devices and other camera makers. The available pricing information does not support a current apples-to-apples comparison, and a low listed camera price alone does not establish product quality, privacy protection, reliability or total ownership cost.
What remains unconfirmed
The available reporting confirms Eamer’s appointment in June 2025, but does not independently verify whether she still holds the role in August 2026. It also does not establish Wyze’s current revenue, profitability, customer count, valuation, operating targets or future product plans. A dated appointment and leadership pedigree are meaningful context, not evidence of subsequent business performance.
