SGNL announced a $30 million Series A on February 12, 2025, to expand its enterprise identity and access-control business. Brightmind Partners led the round, with Costanoa Ventures, Microsoft’s M12, and Cisco Investments participating. SGNL said the financing brought its total funding to $42 million since its 2021 founding.

What is SGNL?

SGNL is an enterprise software company focused on identity management and access control. Its product is designed to make access decisions using current context, rather than relying only on persistent role assignments. The company calls this approach “zero standing privilege”: grant access when conditions justify it and revoke it when it is no longer needed. That is SGNL’s product positioning, not an independently measured security outcome.

SGNL’s earlier announcement said its platform was deployed as SaaS and in customers’ Azure and AWS virtual private clouds. SGNL’s November 2023 announcement described the Cisco Investments strategic investment and those deployment options.

Who invested, and what is known about the round?

According to SGNL’s February 12, 2025 funding announcement, Brightmind Partners led the $30 million Series A. Costanoa Ventures, Microsoft’s M12, and Cisco Investments also participated. SGNL said its total funding since it was founded in 2021 had reached $42 million.

  • FIDO2 & Passkey Ready: Business-ready and FIDO2 L1 certified. This key is supported by major management suites and is ideal for both individual and enterprise deployment. Works seamlessly with Gmail, Facebook, GitHub, Dropbox, Coinbase, and more.
  • Universal Connectivity (USB-A ): Features a built-in USB-A connector—simply unfold the key and plug it into your compatible PC or laptop for seamless authentication on the go.
  • Dedicated Manager App: Use the Thetis Manager App for the initial hardware PIN setup. Setting the PIN on the device first ensures a smooth registration process. Once the PIN is configured, you can begin registering the key across your favorite FIDO2-compatible online services.
  • Ultra-Durable & Portable: Featuring a rotating metal cover, this key is water, crush, and tamper-resistant. It fits easily on a keychain and requires no batteries or network connectivity.
  • Check FIDO2 compatibility before purchase - Known limitations: ID Austria is not supported (requires FIDO2 Level 2). Windows Hello login only works with Windows Enterprise editions that support Entra ID, and NFC is NOT supported.

The company said it planned to use the proceeds for hiring, go-to-market expansion, product development, customer support, and broader market presence. Those are stated plans, not confirmation that the spending has since occurred. TechCrunch’s report on the round said SGNL had not disclosed its valuation or customer list; neither is established by the funding announcement.

What does SGNL’s identity platform do?

SGNL describes its offering as a Continuous Identity platform for enterprise access control. Its official overview says the platform combines three components:

SecuX PUFido USB-C Security Key with PUF Technology, FIDO2/U2F Certified, Hardware-Rooted Unclonable Security for Passwordless Login and 2FA Authentication

  • Easy to use & Portable – Designed with a compact USB-C interface, Clife key fits easily on your keychain for secure access anywhere. Simply plug in and authenticate with ease.
  • Universal Compatibility – Works seamlessly with hundreds of FIDO2/U2F compliant services, including popular cloud, email, and social platforms.
  • Backup recommended – To ensure continuous access, register a backup Clife security key as a spare in case your primary key is lost.
  • Identity Data Fabric: brings together identity and contextual information from systems of record.
  • Dynamic Policy Engine: evaluates that information to make access decisions as conditions change.
  • CAEP Hub: a real-time event framework intended to help the platform respond to relevant changes.

SGNL says its policies can be enforced across cloud infrastructure such as AWS and Azure, SaaS applications such as Salesforce and GitHub, API gateways, MCP servers, and custom applications. These capabilities and integrations are described by the company on its Continuous Identity platform page; they should be read as the vendor’s description, not an independent evaluation.

What customer traction has SGNL reported?

In its funding release, SGNL said it served multiple Fortune 50 customers and a growing number of Fortune 500 enterprises. It also gave an example of a customer reducing 30,000 role assignments to six policies. The company did not name that customer or provide independent documentation of the result, so the example is an attributed company claim rather than verified performance evidence.

SGNL co-founder and CEO Scott Kriz framed the product’s purpose this way in the same announcement: “The current cloud-first, AI era demands a more dynamic, real-time approach—one that eliminates standing access, improves security, and reduces operational burden.” Brightmind Partners’ Stephen Ward offered an investor’s rationale: “As the former CISO of a Fortune 50 company, I saw firsthand how enterprises were investing tens of millions in PAM and IGA systems, expecting stronger security, but instead, these solutions often added complexity and operational overhead without solving the core challenges.” These statements express the speakers’ views; they do not establish comparative product results.

What the financing does—and does not—show

The announcement establishes the size and participants of SGNL’s Series A, along with the company’s stated plans for the proceeds. It also provides SGNL’s account of its product and traction. Funding alone does not demonstrate that the platform reduces risk, lowers operating costs, or outperforms traditional identity and privileged-access tools. The available round reporting does not disclose the company’s valuation or identify its customers.
