TechCrunch’s October 2 announcement said the deadline was “today at midnight PT”; at the announcement’s stated 3:31 p.m. PDT timestamp, about 7 hours and 29 minutes remained. The cutoff is imminent, so confirm the status on TechCrunch’s official Side Events page before applying.
What the application is for
Approved hosts can hold in-person events during Founder Summit Week, November 1–7, 2026, in Boston or surrounding areas. The main Founder Summit takes place Wednesday, November 4, at SoWa Power Station in Boston. TechCrunch describes the program as a way to connect with Summit attendees and Boston’s local tech community.
Possible formats include meetups, panels, mixers, career showcases, happy hours, workshops, morning runs, fireside chats and cocktail hours. The host plans and runs the event; applying does not mean TechCrunch will organize or fund it.
Who can apply, and what timing rules apply?
- Location and format: The event must be live and in person in Boston or surrounding areas.
- Dates: TechCrunch prioritizes November 1–7. On November 4, events must start at 5:00 p.m. ET or later. The official FAQ says events on other dates have no time restriction.
- Age: Events are 18+. If alcohol is served, all guests must be 21+. Hosts must enforce the age limits and screen attendees before entry.
- Number of events: TechCrunch is prioritizing one event per host.
These requirements are listed on TechCrunch’s official Side Events page. If planning an event for November 4, check the start time carefully; the evening-only rule applies to that date.

Applying is free, but acceptance is not guaranteed
There is no fee to apply or to be included in the Side Events lineup. However, TechCrunch reviews applications and must approve an event before it can appear as an official Side Event. As TechCrunch Events put it in its October 2 announcement: “Applying does not guarantee your event will be accepted or hosted as an official TechCrunch Founder Summit Side Event.”
The official materials do not state the application form’s exact fields or when applicants will receive a decision. Submit through the official application page and rely on TechCrunch’s confirmation rather than treating submission as approval.

What hosts need to budget for and manage
Free listing does not mean a free event. TechCrunch says the host is responsible for developing the idea, paying the costs, executing and promoting the event, managing registrations and the event page, handling communications, and dealing with operational or legal issues. Venue, food and drink, staffing, insurance and production costs are therefore the host’s responsibility unless separately covered by the host’s own arrangements.
Choose a format that fits both the audience and the resources available. A meetup or panel may involve less food-and-beverage planning than a happy hour or cocktail event, but every format still requires a suitable Boston-area venue and a plan for registration, staffing and age checks where applicable. These are practical planning considerations, not TechCrunch rankings.

What promotion TechCrunch may provide
At its discretion, TechCrunch may promote an approved event on the Side Events page, conference agenda, mobile app agenda, in attendee emails or in Founder Summit articles. Its October 2 deadline announcement also mentions possible social-channel visibility. Placement in any particular channel is not guaranteed.
Hosts may share a discount promo code for Summit passes with their network and team. TechCrunch’s official Side Events page describes the Summit and local tech audience as 1,100+ founders and VCs; its August 4 announcement refers to 1,100+ startup founders, investors and tech leaders. The October 2 last-call announcement instead says 1,000+ tech leaders are expected in Boston. These are the organizers’ differently worded audience estimates, not a guaranteed attendance count.
