Alcide announced a $5.2 million seed round on December 6, 2017, led by Intel Capital and Elron. The company said it would use its security platform to address the growing complexity of hybrid and multi-cloud data centers, covering workloads from containers and virtual machines to bare-metal systems.
Who invested, and how much did Alcide raise?
The announced seed financing totaled $5.2 million and was led by Intel Capital and Elron, according to Alcide’s December 6, 2017 launch announcement. It was an early institutional investment in the company’s effort to secure increasingly complex data-center and cloud environments.
The seed round was not Alcide’s last financing announcement. GlobeNewswire reported a $7 million Series A in November 2018; that later amount is a separate financing round, not an update to the seed figure. The Series A announcement also described the company’s move toward a Microservices Firewall.
What did Alcide’s platform do?
Alcide presented its product as a universal security platform spanning hybrid, multi-compute, and multi-cloud data centers. Its stated scope combined cloud infrastructure, containers, virtual machines, and bare-metal environments rather than focusing on a single workload type. The launch announcement and product description emphasized that breadth across development, operations, security, and engineering teams. (launch announcement; Alcide)

The company described the platform’s functions as real-time visibility into activity across those environments, analysis of what was happening, and policy controls intended to protect systems from malicious attacks, insider threats, and data exfiltration. The goal was to give teams a shared view of cloud operations and a way to enforce security policy across infrastructure that might otherwise be managed in separate layers. These were Alcide’s stated product capabilities, not independent performance-test results.
Why did Alcide frame the problem around hybrid and multi-cloud operations?
Alcide’s pitch was that modern infrastructure had become too varied and fast-changing for security tools limited to one kind of environment. A team might operate containers alongside virtual machines and physical servers, across private and public cloud resources. Alcide argued that security teams needed both a broad view across those systems and detailed visibility into individual workloads.

CEO and co-founder Ranny Nachmias characterized the challenge as a rapidly evolving, complex data center that had become “the Wild Wild West of Cyber Security.” Intel Capital’s Rick Echevarria, vice president of Intel’s Platforms Security Division, said Alcide offered depth and breadth of visibility and protection for cloud operations, and expressed belief in the solution’s market potential. These statements explain the rationale behind the investment, but they are company and investor perspectives rather than a neutral assessment of product effectiveness. (launch announcement)

Alcide announced general availability of its platform on April 3, 2018. In November 2018, it announced the $7 million Series A and a focus on expanding its Microservices Firewall. Those milestones show the company’s subsequent product and financing progression; they do not establish its present ownership, product availability, or operating status.
