The 2025 account was less about a new model than the work of making AI useful across an organization: training people, governing access, connecting company data and building agents. Google’s product names have since shifted: its current materials center on Gemini Enterprise, not Agentspace.
What Pythian said it was seeing
In an April 9, 2025 interview with CRN, Pythian CEO Brooks Borcherding and CTO Paul Lewis described customers asking for help moving Gemini beyond limited experiments. Some, they said, were considering access for tens of thousands of potential users. That was Pythian management’s account of its customers—not a market-wide adoption measurement.
Pythian said Gemini-related services had risen from zero to 10% of its fourth-quarter 2024 revenue. This is a company-reported share of its own revenue, not an independently audited measure of Gemini sales or industry growth.
The business implication was significant for a services provider: wider access to AI could create more work around implementation and adoption, even if software procurement became easier. A large deployment requires more than assigning licenses; it can involve identity, data access, policy, user education, workflow design and support.

Why Workspace changed the adoption conversation
CRN reported that Google made Gemini 2.0 automatically part of certain Workspace licenses in January 2025, rather than offering it only as a separate add-on. The article cited a previous additional price of up to $30 per user per month. Those figures describe the licensing context reported at the time; they are not a current universal Workspace price.
When AI is available through an existing or expanded productivity plan, a buyer may shift from asking which small pilot warrants an extra license to asking how to prepare employees to use the capability safely. That can bring demand for training, change management, acceptable-use policies, usage measurement and help-desk support. Availability alone does not mean employees know when to use AI, or that the organization has prepared its data and controls.
Workspace and Gemini Enterprise are distinct commercial layers. Google’s current Gemini Enterprise page lists Business, Standard and Plus editions; it shows Standard and Plus starting at $30 per seat per month, while Business pricing and eligibility are handled separately through Google’s sales and trial flows. Check the current edition, region, billing arrangement and user requirements directly with Google. A Workspace entitlement should not be assumed to include every Gemini Enterprise capability.
What Agentspace was meant to add
In the 2025 CRN interview, Agentspace was presented as an enterprise-search and agent layer that could connect Gemini to company knowledge and systems, including internal repositories and HR, finance or third-party applications. Lewis contrasted that approach with a narrow proof of concept in which employees manually upload a small set of files and ask questions against it. The intended value was access to relevant context across governed sources, rather than a chatbot confined to a hand-picked collection.

Connecting more sources is not the same as giving an AI system unrestricted access to company information. Connectors, identity and source permissions matter, and the underlying content must be current and reliable. A search answer can be technically relevant yet misleading if documents conflict, are outdated or are poorly labeled.
What Google calls the product now
The CRN story uses the name Agentspace. Google’s current product materials instead center the Gemini Enterprise app, a workplace-facing hub for discovering, creating, deploying and governing agents. Google says it supports Google-made, custom, externally built and partner-built agents. Its documentation for Gemini Enterprise agents describes that broader ecosystem.
Google also describes the Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform as the developer and deployment platform for building and governing agents, and as the evolution of Vertex AI. In short, the current product map has distinct layers:
- Google Workspace with Gemini: AI capabilities embedded in productivity apps.
- Gemini Enterprise app: A workplace-facing place to use and manage agents.
- Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform: Tools for developers to build, deploy and govern agents.
- Google Cloud Marketplace: A procurement and distribution channel for eligible third-party software, agents and services.
Google’s licensing documentation now directs former Agentspace licensing documentation to Gemini Enterprise materials. That establishes a change in product and documentation terminology, not that every historical Agentspace deployment has an identical one-for-one migration path. Google says Gemini Enterprise licenses are associated with a Google Cloud project and location, and that monthly and annual subscriptions are available.

How Pythian framed its services
Pythian’s “AI Jedi” approach was described as an AI-readiness and enablement practice, not a single software installation. Its scope included investment decisions, governance and policy, architecture, employee and customer education, custom development, embedded AI such as Gemini in Workspace, and agent work using Vertex AI. The model reflects the operational work around deciding where AI fits, preparing users and controlling how systems and data are used.
The services Pythian described included adoption workshops, AI consulting and governance, custom portals for internal manuals and employee questions, specialist support, and custom AI development on Google Cloud. Its commercial opportunity was to help customers move from buying access to building useful, governed workflows.
What the four-week QuickStart did—and did not establish
In its April 24, 2025 recap of Google Cloud Next, Pythian described an Agentspace QuickStart intended to stand up the platform in four weeks with four connectors to important data sources. That was Pythian’s service description, not a Google product SLA or a guaranteed delivery date. The available account does not establish the QuickStart’s current availability, exact scope or price.
Before treating a four-week estimate as a delivery commitment, ask the provider:
- Which data sources are supported, and are the connectors standard or custom?
- What identity, permission mapping and security work is included?
- Does the schedule depend on the customer supplying clean data, access and technical staff on time?
- What is excluded, including licensing, cloud consumption, indexing, storage, training and ongoing support?
- What acceptance tests demonstrate that answers are accurate and respect source permissions?
Connector count alone says little about complexity. One connector to a clean, well-governed repository may be straightforward; one to a customized system with fragmented permissions may take substantial work.

What the partnership figures show
CRN reported that Pythian managed 25,000 databases across 2,000 environments for more than 400 customers. These are figures attributed to the company in the interview, not independently validated market statistics. Pythian’s own recap said it was a Premier Google Cloud Partner and had received Google Cloud’s 2025 Databases Partner of the Year Award for North America.
At Google Cloud Next 2025, CRN reported that Google announced Agentspace enhancements including Chrome Enterprise integration for searching enterprise resources from Chrome and an Agent Gallery for viewing agents from Google, internal teams and partners. In an April 23, 2026 announcement, Google described partner-built agents in the Gemini Enterprise Agent Gallery and Agent Marketplace. Google said featured agents must pass evaluations covering functionality, accuracy, autonomous execution and enterprise standards.

Broader software availability can increase the need for implementation support because the hard part often moves from licensing to safe, useful adoption. A large rollout brings change-management needs; connecting systems requires identity and permission work; agent workflows raise questions about tools, approvals and auditability. Useful answers also depend on whether source data is discoverable, current and appropriate for the user asking.
More connected data can surface weak information faster. Common failure points include duplicate or conflicting documents, stale policies, broken permissions, poor metadata, inaccessible scanned files and important systems without supported connectors. At scale, organizations also need to address sensitive information in summaries, incorrect answers treated as authoritative, prompt injection in connected content, excessive agent permissions, unclear accountability and unused licenses.

License price is only one possible cost. Buyers should account for cloud consumption, indexing and storage, integrations, implementation, training, evaluation, monitoring and ongoing support. Google Cloud Marketplace says qualifying purchases may count against a customer’s Google Cloud commitment, subject to eligibility and contract terms; Marketplace purchasing does not make services free. See Google Cloud Marketplace for current terms.
When an implementation partner makes sense
A Pythian-style engagement is more likely to help when a company has a large user population, multiple identity and data systems, sensitive HR or finance content, limited internal experience with connectors or agents, or a need for formal governance and adoption measurement. It may be excessive for a small team using standard Gemini features when the organization already has the Workspace administration, security and training capability to handle its own rollout.
Before engaging a partner, establish the product and scope in writing. Ask which licenses and Google Cloud projects are needed; which connectors, cloud costs and data work are included; how permissions are preserved; how stale or conflicting sources are handled; and how answer quality is tested. For agents that take action, specify approval requirements, audit logs, rollback procedures and who owns the prompts, connectors, instructions and evaluation data. Also clarify post-launch support and whether fees are fixed, consumption-based, milestone-based or procured through Marketplace.

These options solve related but not identical problems. The best fit depends on where an organization’s data, collaboration and workflows already live.
| Option | Often a stronger fit when | Key distinction |
|---|---|---|
| Microsoft 365 Copilot | The organization is centered on Microsoft 365, Entra ID and Microsoft Graph. | Designed around Microsoft’s productivity and collaboration ecosystem. |
| Salesforce Agentforce | The project centers on Salesforce sales, service or CRM workflows. | More specialized around Salesforce data and processes than a general workplace agent hub. |
| ServiceNow AI Agents | IT, employee or operational workflows already run through ServiceNow. | Can complement a productivity platform rather than replace it. |
| Custom development on Google Cloud | The organization needs tailored workflows, integrations or developer control. | Offers more customization but requires greater responsibility for architecture, evaluation, security and operations. |
For finance teams in particular, access to HR, finance or customer data should follow existing authorization rules, and high-impact actions should have explicit approval and audit controls. A broad agent rollout is not a substitute for deciding which information employees may see or what actions software may take.
