Qualcomm completed its acquisition of Alphawave Semi on December 18, 2025. The approximately $2.4 billion figure in Qualcomm’s June 2025 announcement was the deal’s implied enterprise value; a later Qualcomm filing reported an accounting purchase price of $2.3 billion. The acquisition brings high-speed wired connectivity and custom-silicon capabilities into Qualcomm’s effort to expand in data centers.
What Qualcomm acquired
Alphawave Semi developed high-speed wired connectivity technologies, intellectual property, custom silicon, connectivity products, and chiplets—technologies used to move data between computing components. Qualcomm described these capabilities as complementary to its Oryon CPU and Hexagon NPU processors.
The fit is relevant to data centers, where processors must handle growing computing demands, including AI inference, and move data quickly between components. Qualcomm said the acquisition supports its expansion into that market. That is the company’s stated strategic rationale, not proof that the deal will produce a particular financial return.
Why the deal is described as $2.4 billion
When Qualcomm announced the recommended acquisition on June 9, 2025, it put the implied enterprise value at approximately US$2.4 billion. In its Form 10-Q for the quarter ended March 29, 2026, Qualcomm reported an accounting purchase price of $2.3 billion and said the acquisition closed on December 18, 2025. These figures describe different things at different stages; the later purchase-price disclosure does not change what Qualcomm said the announced enterprise value was.

What has shown up in Qualcomm’s reported results
For the nine months ended June 28, 2026, Qualcomm reported that equipment and services revenues in its Data Center segment increased by $182 million compared with the prior-year period. Qualcomm said the increase was primarily driven by the Alphawave acquisition.
The $182 million is a change in segment revenues, not a disclosed standalone revenue figure for Alphawave. Qualcomm’s filing does not establish how much revenue Alphawave generated on its own, identify attributable customer wins, or provide a detailed post-acquisition product roadmap.

What Qualcomm says it expects—and what remains unproven
In its March 2026 filing, Qualcomm said acquisition goodwill was allocated to its Data Center operating segment. It attributed the goodwill primarily to the assembled workforce and anticipated revenue synergies, including potential growth from new product sales. These are management’s accounting and expectations disclosures; they do not demonstrate that the synergies have been realized.
Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon said when the deal was announced: “Qualcomm’s advanced custom processors are a natural fit for data center workloads.” The statement captures the strategic thesis: pair Qualcomm’s processors with Alphawave’s connectivity and compute technology to pursue data-center opportunities. Whether that combination turns into sustained growth depends on future execution and demand; the disclosures cited here do not establish those outcomes.
