Walmart’s unlocked-phone marketplace is large, but it mixes new devices, Restored and other pre-owned phones, international models, third-party sellers, and carrier-locked prepaid products. The strongest choices depend less on a search ranking than on verified unlock status, the exact model, carrier compatibility, condition, battery information, support life, seller, warranty, return rights, and the final price.
Prices and inventory below are marketplace snapshots checked August 18, 2026. Confirm the current seller, condition, shipping, return deadline, and price on the product page before paying.

Best Walmart unlocked phones by buyer
Best premium Android: Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra
The 256GB Galaxy S26 Ultra is the clearest high-end Android candidate in Walmart’s results, with a snapshot price around $969.99. It suits buyers who want flagship performance, advanced cameras, a large display and long ownership. Before checkout, confirm the exact model number, that the offer is genuinely unlocked, whether it is new or resold, the seller’s identity, and who provides the warranty.

- Please note, this device does not support E-SIM; This 4G model is compatible with all GSM networks worldwide outside of the U.S. In the US, ONLY compatible with T-Mobile and their MVNO's (Metro and Standup). It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).
- Compatibility with certain third-party devices and accessibility accessories, including some hearing aids, may vary depending on manufacturer support, Bluetooth protocols, software compatibility, and regional firmware limitations. For additional hearing aid compatibility information, please refer to Samsung’s official support documentation.

For calls, messaging, navigation and ordinary photography, a Galaxy A36 5G or a recent Restored iPhone may leave more money available without flagship-level hardware.
Best refurbished iPhone value: Restored iPhone 15
A Restored iPhone 15 with 128GB appeared around $380.99 to $529 and was labeled “Restored: Like New.” Its newer hardware makes it a stronger long-term proposition than much older refurbished iPhones, provided the battery, seller, warranty and return terms are acceptable. The displayed rating was 3.7 stars, so read recent listing-specific reviews rather than treating the number as a quality guarantee.
Paying more for a new iPhone can be sensible when you need a known battery, original accessories, direct manufacturer support or less seller uncertainty.

Best cheaper iPhone: Restored iPhone 14
The Restored 128GB iPhone 14 appeared from about $263.97, with a displayed 3.9-star rating in one result. It is a reasonable compromise when the price gap to an iPhone 15 is substantial. Confirm battery information, replacement-part disclosures, included accessories, warranty issuer and the return deadline before comparing it with a new budget Android.
Best sub-$200 candidate: Restored iPhone 12
A carrier-unlocked, Restored iPhone 12 with 64GB appeared from about $168.99. That price can work for a light user or a temporary phone, but 64GB fills quickly with photos, games and offline video. Its older hardware also means more battery wear and a shorter remaining support horizon than newer models. Choose it only when the savings matter more than storage and longevity.
Best midrange Android candidate: Samsung Galaxy A36 5G
The Galaxy A36 5G is a value candidate, not a recommendation based on a fixed price—the captured results did not consistently state one. Verify the U.S. model number, supported bands, eSIM and physical-SIM features, software-support expectations, seller and warranty. Compare its current price with Restored iPhones; a new Android may offer a fresh battery and warranty, while a refurbished iPhone may provide stronger cameras or resale value.

International-model caution: Galaxy A57 5G 2026
An international Galaxy A57 5G listing advertised 128GB, dual SIM and GSM-unlocked service at roughly $353.39–$479.99. “International,” “global,” “GSM unlocked” and “dual SIM” are caution flags, not proof of U.S. compatibility. Check LTE and 5G bands, VoLTE, Wi-Fi calling, eSIM behavior, charger, firmware, warranty location and activation with your exact carrier. Buyers wanting simple U.S. activation should choose a clearly identified U.S. model instead.
What unlocked actually means
An unlocked phone is not restricted to one carrier’s SIM or eSIM, but it is not automatically compatible with every network. Band support, VoLTE, eSIM implementation and carrier certification still matter. Verizon explains that an unlocked device can have limited functionality or fail to work on another carrier: its device guidance and unlocking policy.
- Factory unlocked: Sold without a carrier restriction.
- Carrier unlocked: Previously restricted, then unlocked.
- GSM unlocked: May have limited U.S. compatibility; do not treat it as universal.
- International version: May use different bands, software, accessories and warranty coverage.
- Locked prepaid phone: Restricted to a carrier or carrier family.
- “Compatible with” wording: Not equivalent to “fully unlocked.”
Walmart’s broad cell-phone results have included an iPhone 16e explicitly labeled “Locked to Straight Talk.” A nearby prepaid plan does not unlock that phone.

How to verify carrier compatibility
- Record the exact model number and region from the listing.
- Look for “fully unlocked” or “factory unlocked,” and avoid relying only on “GSM unlocked.”
- Ask whether the IMEI can be checked before purchase; after delivery, check it with the intended carrier.
- Use the carrier or MVNO’s BYOD checker before activating service.
- Confirm physical-SIM and eSIM support, as applicable.
- Check 4G/5G bands and whether 5G access is certified on that network.
- Verify Wi-Fi calling, visual voicemail, hotspot and VoLTE if you need them.
Do not assume that even a “U.S. version” works on every carrier. Verizon’s consumer-safety information describes the same limitation: carrier technologies and certifications can differ.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.New, Restored or pre-owned?
Walmart’s Restored program and electronics condition guidance distinguish Restored Premium, Restored: Like New, Good, Fair and other pre-owned categories.
- New: Usually the clearest battery, accessory and manufacturer-support story, but marketplace “new” offers can still come from third parties.
- Restored: Inspected and tested, with savings on recent phones; battery, cosmetic condition, parts, accessories and warranty vary by tier and listing. Restored Premium requires at least 90% of like-new battery capacity and a minimum one-year written warranty under Walmart’s stated standard.
- Pre-owned: Often cheapest, but prior repairs, water exposure, battery wear, missing accessories and limited updates create more uncertainty.
On every product page, check the condition label, seller rating, refurbishment source, battery guarantee, included box and charger, replacement-part disclosure, warranty issuer and duration.

Shopping checklist for a Walmart listing
- Start with Walmart’s Unlocked Phones category, not only the general cell-phone results.
- Read the complete title and specifications for lock status, storage, condition and region.
- Check the seller and seller rating; marketplace offers are not all sold by Walmart.
- Confirm model number and carrier compatibility before activation.
- Review battery information, accessories, warranty and return terms.
- Compare the final checkout price, shipping and delivery date; “from” prices can represent another color, seller, storage tier or condition.
- Save screenshots of the unlocked-status language and listing details.
- Test calls, texts, data, 5G, Wi-Fi calling, hotspot, voicemail, GPS and both SIM slots immediately after delivery.
Returns, warranties and a failed activation
Walmart’s consumer return page says most wireless phones have a 14-day return window, despite the general policy’s often-cited 90-day period. Restored: Like New, Good and Fair items generally have free 90-day returns under Walmart’s Resold guidance, but the individual listing controls. Check the applicable policy before opening the package.
If activation fails, keep all packaging, photograph the listing’s unlock claim, ask the carrier to document the incompatibility, contact the seller through the order page and begin the return before the deadline. Factory-reset the phone and remove Apple or Google accounts before shipping it back. Escalate to Walmart support if the seller does not respond.
Choosing by priorities rather than specifications
- Network compatibility.
- Unlock status.
- Condition and battery.
- Return and warranty protection.
- Remaining software support.
- Storage capacity.
- Camera and display.
- Performance and gaming.
- Charging and accessory compatibility.
- Price.
For most buyers, 128GB is a practical baseline; 64GB is restrictive for heavy photo or app use, while 256GB is preferable for long ownership and extensive video. iPhone buyers may value Apple services, Apple Watch and resale. Samsung buyers may prioritize large displays, multitasking or a stylus. Pixel, Motorola and TCL listings should be judged on updates, brightness, NFC, eSIM and storage—not price alone.
Bottom line
Use Walmart as a marketplace to investigate, not as proof that every adjacent listing is unlocked or comparable. The Galaxy S26 Ultra is the premium Android option; Restored iPhone 15 and iPhone 14 are the most practical refurbished iPhone candidates; the Restored iPhone 12 is a budget-only choice; and the Galaxy A36 5G is a midrange candidate pending price and model verification. Whichever phone you choose, verify the exact IMEI and carrier compatibility, then weigh battery, seller, warranty and return protection before treating a low price as a bargain.
