n8n’s latest announced valuation is $5.2 billion. SAP disclosed a strategic investment in n8n on May 12, 2026, alongside a multiyear agreement to embed n8n in SAP’s Joule Studio. SAP did not disclose the investment amount. The valuation is more than double n8n’s $2.5 billion valuation announced with its $180 million Series C on October 9, 2025.
That figure is a private-market valuation—not money n8n raised, a public share price, or proof of profitability. The deal matters because it may reposition n8n from a developer-focused automation product into an enterprise AI workflow and orchestration layer.
What n8n does
n8n connects applications, APIs, databases, AI models and human approval steps in visual workflows. Builders can add custom JavaScript or Python, branch on business rules, call multiple services and route exceptions for review. Deployments can run on n8n Cloud or on infrastructure controlled by the customer.
The company calls its licensing approach fair-code, not simply open source. A free self-hosted Community edition exists, while paid self-hosted plans and n8n Cloud add commercial features. Restrictions can apply when a company hosts workflows for customers, manages third-party credentials or resells n8n as a service. Check n8n’s deployment documentation and license-use FAQ before adopting it for a client-facing product.

n8n’s funding and valuation timeline
| Date | Round or transaction | Amount | Valuation or significance |
|---|---|---|---|
| March 2020 | Seed | Approximately $1.5 million | Historical amount reported in secondary sources, including Wikipedia’s funding summary. |
| April 2021 | Series A | $12 million | Led by Felicis Ventures to support n8n.cloud, integrations and hiring; see the company announcement. |
| March 25, 2025 | Series B | €55 million, approximately $60 million at the time | Led by Highland Europe; TechCrunch reported a valuation of about €250 million, or $270 million. Sources: n8n and TechCrunch. |
| October 9, 2025 | Series C | $180 million | Led by Accel at a $2.5 billion valuation; n8n said total funding was $240 million. Sources: n8n and Accel. |
| May 12, 2026 | SAP strategic investment | Not disclosed | $5.2 billion valuation and a planned integration into Joule Studio; see n8n’s announcement. |
Do not add the euro-denominated Series B directly to n8n’s stated $240 million total as though the figures used one currency and accounting basis. The SAP transaction was described as a strategic investment, not a conventional Series D.
Why the valuation more than doubled
AI expanded the category
n8n is selling more than trigger-and-action automation. Its workflows can connect an AI model to tools, enterprise data, APIs, validation rules, approvals and monitoring. That orchestration is important because a model’s answer has limited business value unless it can execute reliably inside existing systems.
SAP supplied strategic distribution
Embedding n8n in Joule Studio could place it near SAP’s installed base and mission-critical processes in finance, supply chain, human resources and customer operations. SAP’s announcement gives n8n enterprise credibility and a possible route to larger contracts. n8n says the partnership addresses sovereignty, compliance, auditability and governance requirements; those are company-stated objectives, not independently verified outcomes.
Reported growth increased investor interest
In its Series C announcement, n8n reported sixfold user growth, tenfold revenue growth, more than 700,000 active weekly developers and builders, and a community with over 5,000 templates. In May 2026 it reported 1.7 million monthly active builders and more than 1,400 enterprise customers, including Fortune 500 teams. These are different measures and dates, and company disclosures do not establish an audited, directly comparable growth series.

AI infrastructure attracted capital
Series C investors included Accel, Meritech, Redpoint, Evantic, Visionaries Club, T.Capital, NVentures and earlier backers such as Felicis Ventures, Sequoia, Highland Europe and HV Capital. NVIDIA’s venture arm also participated. That signals interest in the orchestration layer around AI, but it does not demonstrate exclusivity, NVIDIA product integration or guaranteed commercial demand.
What the $5.2 billion number does—and does not—tell you
The increase from $2.5 billion to $5.2 billion is approximately 2.08 times, or 108%, in under seven months. Possible drivers include reported growth, a hotter AI-infrastructure market, SAP’s distribution value, competition for agent-building capabilities and scarcity of platforms that connect AI to real business systems.
Those are analytical hypotheses, not disclosed components of the price. The public announcements do not provide annual recurring revenue, margins, free cash flow, retention, customer concentration, SAP-related revenue, the amount of equity sold, dilution or liquidation preferences. Without those figures, a conventional revenue multiple or intrinsic-value calculation is not responsible.
A useful way to test the valuation is through four questions:
Rank #3
- Market: Can AI-agent deployment become a large, durable software category?
- Product: Is n8n materially better for technical, customized and governed workflows?
- Distribution: Can SAP turn developer adoption into repeatable enterprise contracts?
- Economics: Can n8n monetize usage and governance while retaining its community?
The SAP deal strengthens the distribution argument. It does not prove the economics argument.
What SAP and n8n gain
SAP’s incentives
- A flexible layer for building agents around SAP data and processes.
- Connections from SAP systems to non-SAP tools, APIs, models and human workflows.
- Faster experimentation than relying only on traditional integration products.
- More control over governance and deployment for enterprise AI.
Embedding n8n in Joule Studio is not an acquisition. The announcement describes an investment and commercial partnership.
n8n’s potential benefits
- Enterprise distribution and a major reference partner.
- More resources for security, support, compliance and product development.
- Access to regulated and larger organizations.
- A possible embedded or OEM revenue channel, although commercial terms and revenue were not disclosed.
Risks behind the valuation
Execution and competition
Microsoft, Salesforce, ServiceNow, cloud providers, Zapier, Make, Workato and SAP’s own tools can all compete for automation and agent workflows. AI features can be copied quickly, so n8n’s durable advantage must come from workflow assets, integrations, developer habits, governance, deployment flexibility, reliability and SAP distribution—not from “agents” alone.
Partnership risk
A multiyear agreement does not guarantee adoption. SAP must ship the integration, position it clearly and convert access to paid deployments. n8n must support enterprise security, reliability and procurement requirements while preserving product flexibility.
Rank #4
Licensing and community tension
Fair-code restrictions can protect the business but may frustrate users who expect unrestricted open-source use. Changes in pricing or licensing could also affect community growth.
Operational and AI risk
- Hallucinated tool parameters or duplicate actions after retries.
- Partial completion across several systems.
- Runaway loops, rate limits and unpredictable model behavior.
- Credential leakage through prompts or logs.
- Prompt injection from external content.
- Insufficient human approval for high-impact actions.
- Data-residency violations and weak audit trails.
- Workflows that become difficult to reproduce after model or node updates.
n8n’s value is therefore strongest when it provides validation, approvals, retries, observability and governance—not merely automated AI calls.

Self-hosting is not free in total cost. Compute, databases, backups, disaster recovery, secrets management, TLS, monitoring, patching, upgrade testing, on-call coverage and compliance work can outweigh the license saving. n8n Cloud stores hosted-plan data in the EU, with servers in Frankfurt, according to n8n’s FAQ; self-hosted data resides where the customer deploys it.
Should you evaluate n8n?
n8n is a strong candidate when
- Workflows need custom code, branching, transformations, APIs or approvals.
- Developers or technically capable operators are available.
- Self-hosting, data residency or network control matters.
- You want reusable automation infrastructure across multiple AI models and tools.
- Execution-based pricing fits high-step workflows.
- SAP or future Joule Studio alignment is strategically important.
Consider alternatives when
- Nontechnical users need simple, rapidly deployed SaaS automations; compare Zapier.
- You want a cloud-first visual builder without self-hosting; compare Make.
- You need a sales-led, governance-heavy enterprise integration program; compare Workato.
- Your organization is deeply SAP-centric and prioritizes SAP-native procurement and governance; review SAP Integration Suite and SAP Business AI.
- The workflow is core intellectual property and your engineering team can build and maintain every connector, approval, retry, audit and monitoring system internally.
For any client-hosting or credential-management use case, confirm the required n8n license before purchase. Compare total cost of ownership—not a free software download with a competitor’s subscription.
Bottom line
SAP’s strategic investment changes n8n’s status. The company is no longer only a developer-oriented automation vendor seeking enterprise credibility; it now has a major enterprise software partner validating its potential role in AI workflow infrastructure. The $5.2 billion valuation reflects expectations about future growth, distribution and monetization, not a proven measure of present earnings or fair value. Buyers should evaluate n8n for workflow complexity, control and governance, while investors should wait for evidence of repeatable enterprise revenue, retention, margins and successful SAP execution.
