eBay announced the definitive agreement on September 22, 2025, after eBay Ventures had invested in Tise in 2022. The company did not disclose the acquisition’s total financial terms.

What eBay acquired
Tise AS operates Tise, a Nordic social marketplace headquartered in Oslo, Norway. Its core categories are secondhand fashion and lifestyle goods, with a product experience designed to make buying and selling feel more community-driven.
According to eBay’s announcement, Tise lets users follow sellers, like and comment on listings, and receive personalized recommendations. That emphasis on feeds, interaction and discovery distinguishes Tise from a marketplace experience based mainly on search, filters and individual item pages.

eBay’s announcement describes Tise as a social marketplace rather than merely a resale technology provider. The completed transaction was an acquisition of Tise AS, not just a commercial partnership or a new minority investment.

Social commerce and discovery
Following, likes, comments and recommendations can encourage users to browse through people and interests, not only search for a precisely specified product. eBay’s rationale was that Tise’s social-first mechanics could strengthen the discovery side of consumer-to-consumer commerce.
Younger marketplace users
eBay specifically cited Gen Z and Millennial consumers. This is eBay’s stated target rationale, not proof that the acquisition has already increased those groups’ participation, retention or spending.
Fashion-led, on-trend inventory
Tise’s focus on secondhand fashion and lifestyle goods gives eBay an assortment and browsing environment that complement eBay’s much broader category coverage. Fashion resale can also generate repeat discovery because inventory changes constantly and styles are highly visual.
A stronger consumer-to-consumer proposition
eBay said Tise would strengthen its global consumer-to-consumer, or C2C, capabilities. eBay brings scale, established buyer and seller infrastructure and international marketplace experience; Tise brings a more concentrated social resale format.

These are management’s stated reasons for the deal. The announcement does not establish that Tise has already delivered a particular increase in buyers, engagement, conversion or revenue.
How Tise differs from traditional eBay

The strategic challenge is combining those strengths without removing the focused, local and community-oriented qualities that made Tise distinctive. The public disclosures do not say that eBay has already transferred Tise’s features into the main eBay marketplace.
How much did eBay pay?
eBay did not disclose the transaction’s total purchase price in its acquisition announcement.
VNV Global, an investor in Tise, separately disclosed that it agreed to sell its Tise shares for approximately NOK 109 million, or about US$11 million at the time. That is a shareholder-level sale. Unless transaction documents establish otherwise, it should not be described as eBay’s total consideration for buying all of Tise.

VNV Global’s Nasdaq disclosure is therefore useful price context, but not confirmation of the full deal value.
What the acquisition means for users and sellers
The completion itself is confirmed. The practical effects remain less clear because eBay has not publicly set out a detailed integration, staffing, brand or product roadmap in the cited materials.
Possible opportunities
- More social discovery and recommendation tools in eBay’s C2C experience.
- Improved visibility for fashion and lifestyle sellers.
- Access to eBay’s international reach, payments, shipping and operational infrastructure.
- Further investment in resale and recommerce features.
Questions that remain open
- Whether Tise will continue as a distinct app and brand.
- Whether Tise users or listings will be migrated to eBay.
- Whether fees, moderation, shipping or account policies will change.
- How user data and personalization will be handled across the businesses.
- Whether eBay will expand Tise into specific additional countries.
- What measurable contribution Tise will make to eBay’s buyers, sellers or financial results.
None of those outcomes should be treated as settled without a later announcement from eBay or Tise.

The Tise deal is part of eBay’s effort to make its C2C marketplace more relevant to social, fashion-led resale. eBay later announced an agreement to acquire Depop from Etsy, but that is a separate transaction and should not be conflated with Tise.

Depop is a larger and more prominent fashion-marketplace deal, announced at approximately $1.2 billion in the cited materials. Tise was acquired from its own shareholders, with eBay’s full purchase price undisclosed. The two transactions are strategically related because both involve social or fashion-oriented C2C commerce, but they concern different companies and deal processes.

What investors should watch next
- Integration disclosures: eBay may clarify whether Tise remains an independent destination or contributes technology, product features or teams to broader eBay initiatives.

Bottom line on the Tise acquisition
