Before joining X, Nitti spent roughly nine years at Verizon and a substantial period at American Express, according to TechCrunch’s account of the Financial Times report. That background made him a senior commercial hire for a platform trying to rebuild advertiser confidence after Elon Musk’s 2022 acquisition of Twitter.

“Advertising chief” is a useful shorthand, but it is not his reported formal title and does not establish that he alone controlled every part of X’s advertising organization.

Was Nitti fired or did he resign?

The commercial pressure behind the personnel change

X’s advertising business has faced pressure since Musk acquired Twitter. Many advertisers reduced or paused spending amid concerns about content moderation, brand safety and the platform’s changing direction. Under Yaccarino, X said it was working to bring brands back and improve safeguards.

X partnered with DoubleVerify and Integral Ad Science to help identify or flag ad placements near inappropriate content, according to TechCrunch. X also said major advertisers had returned or resumed spending. X’s lawsuit over an alleged advertiser boycott

X sued the World Federation of Advertisers, the Global Alliance for Responsible Media and various advertisers, alleging that they coordinated an illegal boycott.
