Trump Mobile’s website briefly displayed a wireless coverage map labeled “Gulf of Mexico” on June 16–17, 2025. After the image circulated, the coverage page reportedly became unavailable and returned an error. The evidence supports a takedown or temporary removal of the page, but does not establish who ordered it or why.
What happened to the Trump Mobile map?
Trump Mobile launched its wireless service on June 16, 2025, promoting a nationwide coverage map as part of its new website. A screenshot or recording circulated the next day showing the conventional “Gulf of Mexico” label on that map. Neowin and El País reported that the coverage page later became inaccessible or returned a 404/error page.
That sequence establishes that a page showing the label was online and then unavailable. It does not prove a permanent deletion, a specific internal order, or that the page was removed solely because of the Gulf’s name. Contemporary reporting described the map as apparently using Mapbox data, but neither Trump Mobile nor Mapbox publicly confirmed the reason for the page’s disappearance.
Neowin’s report and the contemporaneous report from El País document the episode.

Why “Gulf of Mexico” became a political story
The label drew attention because the Trump administration had promoted “Gulf of America” for federal-government usage. A federal naming directive does not automatically change every private, international or commercial geographic database. Mapping companies may continue to use the name most common in their underlying global data, language rules or regional products.
In this case, the label appears to have come from the basemap rather than from an explicit Trump Mobile statement. A commercial map can combine a third-party basemap with a company’s own coverage overlay, so a displayed geographic name is not necessarily marketing copy written by the wireless provider.

What is known—and what is not—about the removal
Established by contemporaneous reporting
- The Trump Mobile coverage page displayed “Gulf of Mexico.”
- The page later became unavailable or returned an error.
- The disappearance followed public attention to the label.
- Neowin identified Mapbox as the apparent mapping platform.
Not established
- That Donald Trump personally ordered a change.
- That the company removed the page specifically because of the Gulf label.
- That Trump Mobile or Mapbox had already changed the underlying geographic data.
- That the company intended the label as a political endorsement or rejection.
“Trump’s team took down the map” is therefore a shorthand description of a reported website change, not proof of direct presidential involvement or motive.
Did Trump Mobile claim to cover the Gulf?
No reliable conclusion follows from the label alone. A basemap may show a large regional area even when the service’s colored coverage layer is limited to land. The Gulf’s name is a geographic annotation, not evidence of usable cellular service offshore.

What to check before signing up
- Confirm that your phone is compatible and locate its IMEI.
- If you are porting a number, obtain your current account number and transfer PIN.
- Budget for taxes and fees in addition to the advertised monthly price.
- Decide whether 20 GB of high-speed data is sufficient for your use.
- Check coverage and performance for your specific location and device rather than relying on a broad nationwide map.
- Review AutoPay, cancellation, roaming, hotspot and other restrictions in the current customer agreement.
Separate launch problems should not be conflated
Reports about messy pre-orders and later delays involving the separately marketed T1 phone concern purchasing, hardware availability and fulfillment—not proof that the coverage map was technically inaccurate. The Associated Press later described changing availability statements around the phone. Those developments should be evaluated independently of the Gulf label.

Bottom line
Trump Mobile’s map briefly used “Gulf of Mexico,” then reportedly disappeared after the label attracted attention. That is a documented website and branding episode. It is not evidence that the company offered cellular service in the Gulf, that Donald Trump ordered the removal, or that the map represented a confirmed political position.
