Spotify raised U.S. Premium prices again in 2026. Premium Individual increased from $11.99 to $12.99 per month, Duo from $16.99 to $18.99, Family from $19.99 to $21.99, and Student from $5.99 to $6.99. The first higher charge depends on your billing date and the notice on your account—not one universal February date.

These are the listed U.S. monthly prices after Spotify’s 2026 increase. Annual impact is calculated from the monthly difference before tax; your final bill can be higher where sales tax applies.

Spotify’s current U.S. plan page lists these prices and describes features such as ad-free listening, offline listening, full playback control, podcasts, music videos and lossless audio up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz. When will the higher price begin?
Spotify announced the change on January 15, 2026, for subscribers in the United States, Estonia and Latvia. U.S. customers were notified by email, and Spotify says customers get a one-month grace period to cancel before the new price applies. That does not mean every account changes on the same calendar day.

- Your effective date follows your account’s billing cycle and the notice displayed for your plan.
- Check the next billing date and price in your account rather than assuming the first higher payment is in February.
- Spotify’s explanation is that occasional price updates reflect the value of the service and help it continue improving the product and benefiting artists. That is Spotify’s stated rationale, not a documented per-stream pass-through to particular artists.

How to verify whether a Spotify price email is genuine
Do not rely on an email link alone. Check the account directly:
- Open the Spotify app or type spotify.com manually in your browser.
- Sign in and open your account’s plan-management area.
- Confirm the plan name, displayed monthly price and next billing date.
- If the email asks for payment details through an unfamiliar page, close it and use the account page instead.
Spotify identifies the billing date in your account. You can also open the Spotify account page directly.
What happens to trials and promotions?
Spotify says a subscriber who is on a trial receives one month at the original price after the trial ends; the new plan price applies after that month. Eligibility, promotional length and end dates vary, so read the terms shown when you enroll.

The current U.S. page has shown offers such as Individual at $0 for one month followed by $12.99 per month and Student at $0 for three months followed by $6.99 per month for eligible customers. These offers can change, so treat the signup page’s terms—not an old advertisement—as controlling.
How to cancel Spotify Premium
- Open Spotify’s Manage your plan page.
- Select Cancel subscription.
- Continue through the confirmation screens.
- Verify that the account shows the cancellation and the date Premium ends.
For a normally billed subscription, Premium remains active until the next billing date, then the account changes to Spotify Free. Spotify says your playlists, saved music and podcasts remain available, but Free is ad-supported and does not retain the full Premium experience. Deleting the app does not cancel billing.
A zero-priced trial is an exception: Spotify says canceling it switches the account to Free immediately, and the trial cannot be reactivated. A Family or Duo subscription generally must be canceled by the plan manager; members lose Premium benefits when the manager’s paid period ends.
If a mobile carrier, app store or another partner bills you, cancellation may have to be completed with that provider. Check the plan-management screen to identify the billing partner. Follow Spotify’s cancellation instructions.

Can you downgrade instead?
Family or Duo to Individual
If fewer people use the account than the plan allows, compare the current household need with Individual pricing. A Family or Duo plan does not automatically become Individual; use the plan-management options and check when the change takes effect.
Premium to Spotify Free
Free is the no-new-subscription-cost option. You keep the account and library, while accepting advertising, fewer playback controls and no Premium offline downloads.
Student eligibility
Student is a separate discounted plan. Eligibility must be verified under Spotify’s current requirements; losing eligibility can move you to the applicable regular price.
Audiobooks Access
Spotify lists Audiobooks Access separately from full Premium. It is designed for audiobook listening while music remains on the free, ad-supported service, so it is not a replacement for ad-free Premium music.

- Open your account and record the exact next billing date and price.
- Check whether taxes or a third-party billing relationship affect your total.
- For Duo or Family, count active users and confirm the plan manager.
- For Student or a trial, read the current eligibility and offer terms.
- If switching, export or transfer playlists as a separate task; no competitor guarantees an identical library, recommendation history or social experience.

Will I lose my playlists if I cancel?
