Expired-deal warning: Verizon’s Cyber Monday promotion reported on November 26, 2018 is no longer available. The headline combined two different offers: up to $300 off selected phones for customers switching to Verizon or adding a line, and a separate Pixel 2 XL installment price of $15 per month.
The original report is archived at Droid Life. Treat this as a historical deal explanation, not a current Verizon shopping offer.
What Verizon actually offered
According to Droid Life’s November 26, 2018 report, Verizon’s Cyber Monday promotion had separate eligibility tracks. The $300 maximum discount applied to newer 2018 phones when a customer ported a number to Verizon or added a line. Existing customers making a standard upgrade were reported to receive $100 off instead, with a trade-in required.
| Customer path | Reported offer | Requirement described in the report |
|---|---|---|
| Switch to Verizon | Up to $300 off selected phones | Port a number and start Verizon service |
| Add a line | Up to $300 off selected phones | Add a new Verizon line |
| Existing-customer upgrade | $100 off selected phones | Trade-in required |
| Low-payment phone offer | $5 to $15 per month, depending on model | 24-month device-payment structure |
The source does not establish every account, plan, credit-approval, activation, tax, fee, inventory, or return restriction. It also does not say whether the $300 was an instant checkout reduction or delivered through bill credits.

Which phones received the $300 discount?
The reported $300-off group consisted of:
- Google Pixel 3
- Google Pixel 3 XL
- Samsung Galaxy S9
- Samsung Galaxy S9+
- Samsung Galaxy Note 9
- LG V40
The discount was tied to switching or adding a line. It was not described as a universal price cut for every Verizon customer.
The Pixel 2 XL was a separate $15-per-month offer
The headline can be misread as saying that the Pixel 2 XL was $300 off. It was not listed in the reported $300-off phone group. Instead, the Pixel 2 XL appeared in a separate low-monthly-payment promotion.
| Phone | Reported device payment | Term |
|---|---|---|
| Google Pixel 2 XL | $15 per month | 24 months |
| Samsung Galaxy S8 | $10 per month | 24 months |
| LG G7 | $10 per month | 24 months |
| Moto Z3 | $5 per month | 24 months |
What $15 per month meant
It was a device-installment amount, not the phone’s total price and not a wireless-service price. Based on the reported $15 monthly amount and 24-month term, the scheduled Pixel 2 XL device payments totaled $360 ($15 × 24), before service-plan costs, taxes, fees, activation charges, accessories, or other account expenses.

The report did not provide the phone’s original retail price, storage configuration, financing agreement, or early-payoff rules. A customer considering the offer therefore needed to evaluate the complete Verizon bill and the obligation to remain with the carrier during the installment period.

Switching, adding a line, or upgrading: why the distinction mattered
Switching to Verizon
A new Verizon customer who ported in a number was on the path associated with the reported maximum discount. The benefit came with the cost of changing carriers and taking on Verizon service.
Adding a line
An existing Verizon customer could qualify for the reported $300 maximum by adding a new line. That meant the device discount did not eliminate the recurring cost of the additional line.

Upgrading an existing line
A regular upgrade did not receive the same reported discount. The article described $100 off for this route and said a trade-in was required. The source does not state the trade-in values or which devices Verizon accepted.
Accessories in the 2018 promotion
| Accessory | Reported Verizon price | Reported savings |
|---|---|---|
| Pixel Stand | $49.99 | $30 off |
| UE Boom 3 | $129.99 | $20 off |
A later update in the same report noted that Best Buy listed the Pixel Stand at $39.99, which was $10 less than Verizon’s reported promotional price.

- Wireless service: Device installments were separate from the monthly Verizon plan.
- New-line economics: Adding a line created an ongoing service obligation.
- Trade-in dependency: The upgrade discount required a qualifying trade-in, but the available report does not document its value.
- Installment duration: The low monthly prices were spread over 24 months.
- Carrier flexibility: Leaving before the installment term could have required paying the remaining device balance, although the report does not preserve Verizon’s exact 2018 payoff rules.
- Missing terms: The report does not specify credit approval, taxes, activation fees, plan names, bill-credit timing, return rules, or inventory limits.
Was the deal worth it?
For a shopper already planning to switch to Verizon or add a line, the reported $300 discount could materially reduce the device cost. For an existing customer who only wanted an upgrade, the advertised benefit was smaller and required a trade-in.

The Pixel 2 XL calculation shows why monthly advertising needed scrutiny: $15 per month sounded inexpensive, but it represented $360 in scheduled device payments, plus service and other charges. The best comparison was the total cost of the phone, the required plan, any new-line expense, the value of a traded-in device, and the cost of being committed to the carrier for the installment term.
Why this offer is not actionable today
Cyber Monday 2018 was November 26, 2018. The Pixel 2 XL and Pixel 3 are now several generations old, and the original Verizon promotion has expired. Current Verizon listings feature much newer Pixel models; see the current Verizon Google Pixel catalog. Current unlocked and refurbished offers are listed by the Google Store.
Those current pages are not continuations of the 2018 deal. Any present-day carrier offer may require a new line, qualifying plan, trade-in, activation within a specified period, and monthly bill credits. Check the live terms before buying.
Historical takeaway
This promotion illustrates a standard carrier-deal structure: the largest headline discount was attached to customer acquisition or a new line, while the low monthly figure reflected financing over time. To assess any similar offer, separate the device price from service costs, identify every eligibility condition, multiply the installment by the full term, and verify what happens if you cancel or switch.
