The iQOO Neo 6 leak published on May 17, 2022 was broadly right about the Indian phone’s price range and hardware direction, but it missed the launch timing and top-end price. iQOO launched the Indian Snapdragon 870 model on May 31, 2022, with sales starting that day at ₹29,999 for 8GB/128GB and ₹33,999 for 12GB/256GB.
What the May 17 leak predicted
The original report, citing tipster Mukul Sharma and clues from a BGMI Open Challenge promotion, presented these as unconfirmed Indian-market details:
| Item | Pre-launch claim |
|---|---|
| Starting price | About ₹29,000 |
| Higher variant | About ₹31,000 |
| First sale | First week of June 2022 |
| Processor | Snapdragon 870, with speculative references to an “870+” |
| Display | 6.62-inch E4 AMOLED, 120Hz |
| Memory | 8GB or 12GB RAM; 128GB or 256GB storage |
| Battery and charging | 4,700mAh and 80W fast charging |
| Rear camera | 64MP main camera with OIS, alongside secondary cameras |
| Software | Android 12 with OriginOS, as worded in the report |
Those details were reported in the May 17 article at GizChina; they were not an iQOO specification sheet.
India and China received different Neo 6 hardware
The Indian iQOO Neo 6 was not the same configuration as the Chinese Neo 6. The Chinese model used Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, while the Indian phone used the Snapdragon 870 5G. Contemporary reporting also compared the Indian configuration with the Chinese Neo 6 SE, but the important buying distinction is the chipset itself: a phone sharing the Neo 6 name did not necessarily offer the same performance.

iQOO’s Indian announcement confirmed the Snapdragon 870 and 80W FlashCharge, while launch coverage documented the China-versus-India difference (iQOO Community; Gadgets 360).
Final Indian price and sale date
iQOO confirmed the launch for May 31, 2022, and sales began on the same date through Amazon India and iQOO’s online store. The final prices were:
| Variant | Leaked price | Confirmed launch price |
|---|---|---|
| 8GB RAM + 128GB storage | About ₹29,000 | ₹29,999 |
| 12GB RAM + 256GB storage | About ₹31,000 | ₹33,999 |
The base-price tip was close after rounding. The higher model cost ₹4,000 more than the base version, not the roughly ₹2,000 difference suggested by the leak. Launch pricing and same-day availability were reported by Moneycontrol.

Launch offers were temporary discounts, not list prices
Contemporary launch coverage described several potential reductions:
Recommended Free Tools
- Up to ₹3,000 off with eligible ICICI Bank cards.
- A ₹1,000 Amazon coupon.
- Up to ₹3,000 exchange discount.
Reports suggesting an effective price near ₹26,000 depended on qualifying for and combining those offers. ₹26,000 was therefore not the standard retail price, and the offers were time-limited.

What the leak got wrong or left uncertain
The sale window
The predicted first week of June was overtaken by the May 31 launch and immediate sales.
The higher price
The ₹31,000 estimate for the 12GB/256GB model was incorrect; the official launch price was ₹33,999.

Software
OriginOS belonged to the Chinese context. The Indian retail phone shipped with Funtouch OS 12 Global and Android 12.
Camera details
Pre-launch reports differed on the ultra-wide sensor, with one account mentioning 12MP. The Indian store specification settled the configuration at 64MP OIS + 8MP wide-angle + 2MP macro. The 64MP stabilized main camera was the meaningful imaging feature; the 2MP macro unit was a basic auxiliary sensor.
Colours
The final Indian colours were Dark Nova and Cyber Rage, rather than the reported Interstellar and Dark Nova combination.

How to interpret the phone’s value
- Performance: Snapdragon 870 gaming performance was strong for the ₹30,000 class in 2022, but it was below the Chinese Neo 6’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.
- Display: The 120Hz E4 AMOLED panel supported smoother scrolling and gaming.
- Charging: 80W FlashCharge was one of the model’s clearest practical advantages.
- Cameras: The main 64MP OIS camera carried most of the photographic value; the secondary sensors were modest.
- Storage choice: The 12GB/256GB model added 4GB RAM and doubled storage for ₹4,000 more at launch.
- Availability: Initial sales were online through Amazon India and iQOO’s store rather than assumed nationwide offline distribution.
What the price means today
The ₹29,999 and ₹33,999 figures are May 2022 launch prices, not current retail guidance. An official store page has shown a ₹39,999 MRP for a 12GB/256GB listing while marking it unavailable; that page should not be treated as evidence of current stock or value. A refurbished listing may also appear, but buyers should verify the checkout price, warranty, battery condition, charger, return policy and supported 5G bands before purchasing (iQOO refurbished store).
Bottom line
The May 17, 2022 leak identified the Indian Neo 6’s broad formula—Snapdragon 870, 120Hz AMOLED display, 80W charging and a starting price near ₹29,000—but it was not a final specification sheet. The phone launched earlier than predicted, on May 31, at ₹29,999 and ₹33,999. It also differed materially from the Chinese Neo 6 in chipset and from the leak in software, top-end pricing, camera details and colour names.
