The figures published for several models conflict, and the leadership claims cover different truck segments. This article focuses on calendar-year 2024 U.S. sales and labels each claim by source and scope.
What the 2024 sales evidence establishes
The clearest headline is Ford’s claim that the F-Series remained America’s best-selling truck for the 48th consecutive year. Ford’s 2025 year-end article makes that leadership claim but, in the material available here, does not give the F-Series’ annual total. It is evidence of Ford’s stated overall leadership, not a complete, independently comparable table of every pickup nameplate.
Other automakers’ statements concern narrower categories. Toyota says Tacoma was the number-one small pickup for the 20th consecutive year, while General Motors says it led full-size pickup sales for the fifth consecutive year. Those claims are not directly interchangeable: Tacoma’s small-pickup result does not establish that it outsold full-size trucks, and GM’s group-level leadership does not mean one GM nameplate outsold the F-Series.
Published 2024 U.S. pickup figures—and why they do not form one definitive ranking
A 2025 GM Authority compilation gives the following 2024 U.S. figures. They should be read as that publisher’s reported totals, not as a definitive all-class ranking:

The sources do not reconcile these differences or establish a shared counting method. The available material also does not settle, across all lines, how electric variants or heavy-duty models are treated. For those reasons, sorting the figures into a precise, complete league table would imply more comparability than the evidence supports. Treat each number as a source-specific report, not as a verified cross-source ranking.

How to interpret the segment leaders
Ford F-Series: the broad leadership claim
Ford Motor Company said in 2025 that the F-Series held the U.S. best-selling-truck title for 48 consecutive years, including 2024. This is the strongest available overall leadership claim in the cited material, although the retrieved Ford passage does not supply an annual total to compare directly with other publishers’ figures.
Toyota Tacoma: small-pickup leadership
Toyota Motor North America said in 2025 that Tacoma was America’s number-one small pickup for the 20th straight year. That is a segment-specific claim. It does not place Tacoma above full-size pickups in total sales.

General Motors: company-wide full-size leadership
General Motors said in 2025 that it led full-size pickup sales for a fifth consecutive year. This refers to GM’s full-size pickup position as a manufacturer, rather than proving that Silverado alone outsold the F-Series. GM executive vice president and president of global markets Rory Harvey described the year as “a great year for us across our product lines.”

Sales figures indicate how many vehicles a source says were sold under its definitions. They do not establish that a truck is more reliable, safer, less expensive to own, a better value, or better suited to a particular job or budget. A buyer comparing pickups should separately evaluate the configuration, payload and towing needs, fuel or charging costs, purchase price, insurance, and ownership requirements that matter to them.

Because the published totals here conflict, use the manufacturer claims for their stated scope and treat secondary model totals as attributed estimates. Do not rely on a single blended ranking as a purchasing recommendation.
