Yes—but this is not a new 2026 announcement. Amazon announced the feature on October 4, 2021, for U.S. Prime members using the Amazon Shopping mobile app. It allowed shoppers to send certain physical gifts using the recipient’s email address or mobile phone number instead of entering a street address.
Amazon’s original announcement does not confirm that the feature is still broadly available in 2026. Recent user reports suggest that the option may be missing for some accounts, products, or app versions, so check the current checkout screen before relying on it.

How Amazon’s no-address gift feature worked
The original feature was designed for situations where you wanted to send a physical gift but did not know—or did not want to ask for—the recipient’s mailing address.
Instead of shipping directly to an address entered by the sender, Amazon notified the recipient by email or text. The recipient then accepted the gift and provided a preferred delivery address through Amazon.

Amazon documented the feature for U.S. Prime members in the Amazon Shopping mobile app. It was not presented as a general desktop-checkout feature.
Original steps for sending the gift
- Open the Amazon Shopping app and choose an eligible physical product.
- Add the item to your cart.
- Select “Add a gift receipt for easy returns.”
- Proceed to checkout.
- At the delivery-address stage, look for “Let the recipient provide their address.”
- Enter the recipient’s email address or mobile phone number.
- Complete the purchase.
- The recipient receives a gift notification by email or text, accepts the gift, and enters a delivery address through their Amazon account.
These are the labels Amazon used when the feature launched. Amazon may have changed the wording or placement in later app versions, and the option may not appear for every purchase.
What the recipient could do
The recipient could accept the gift and provide a delivery address without sending that address to the purchaser. Amazon also said the recipient could exchange the gift for an Amazon gift card without notifying the sender.
That made the feature different from a standard gift return. The recipient could avoid receiving an unwanted or duplicate item while preserving the social courtesy of not telling the sender that the item was exchanged.
The launch workflow referred to the recipient using an Amazon account. Contemporaneous reporting said the recipient needed an Amazon account but did not need to be an Amazon Prime member. Amazon’s current account requirements should be checked if the option appears in the app.

Who qualified?
- Sender: Amazon Prime membership was required at launch.
- Location: The announced rollout was for the United States.
- Platform: The Amazon Shopping mobile app, rather than the ordinary desktop website checkout.
- Item: An eligible physical product that supported gift ordering.
- Recipient: An email address or mobile phone number was needed, and the recipient apparently needed an Amazon account to accept the gift.
- Recipient Prime membership: Not required according to contemporaneous reporting.
Eligibility could depend on the product category, seller, fulfillment method, shipping restrictions, destination, account, and app version. Amazon’s launch language should not be interpreted to mean that every Prime purchase can be sent this way.
Is the feature still available in 2026?
Its current status cannot be confirmed from Amazon’s launch materials. The primary sources establish that Amazon introduced the feature in 2021, but they do not establish continued, universal availability in August or September 2026.
Recent Reddit discussions include users reporting that they could no longer find the option. Those reports suggest inconsistent availability, but they do not prove that Amazon has formally discontinued the feature.
The practical test is simple: use the current Amazon Shopping app, select an eligible physical item, and check the delivery options during checkout. If “Let the recipient provide their address” or an equivalent option does not appear, do not assume that a desktop browser, mobile website, saved cart, or different product will offer it.
Why the option may be missing
- You are using Amazon.com in a desktop browser or the mobile website instead of the native app.
- The app is outdated.
- The product does not support gift ordering or recipient-provided delivery.
- The item is digital, restricted, unusually large, hazardous, or subject to shipping limitations.
- The product is sold or fulfilled under conditions that do not support the feature.
- The feature is not enabled for your account, location, or current app version.
- Amazon has changed, limited, or withdrawn the feature without clearly documenting the change.
There is no verified universal list of products that remain eligible in 2026.

Privacy: what this does—and does not—hide
The main privacy benefit is that the sender does not have to know the recipient’s street address. Amazon receives the address from the recipient so it can deliver the item.
That does not make the transaction completely anonymous. The recipient may see the sender’s name or gift message, while Amazon retains the order, payment, account, and delivery information associated with the transaction. Avoid describing the feature as anonymous unless Amazon’s current documentation specifically says so.

Returns and exchanges
Amazon’s launch announcement specifically highlighted the gift receipt and the ability for the recipient to exchange the item for an Amazon gift card without notifying the sender.
That should not be treated as a guarantee that every product has identical return or exchange treatment. Policies can vary by item, seller, fulfillment method, condition, and applicable return rules. Amazon’s general gift-return guidance says gift recipients generally receive refunds as Amazon.com gift cards when returning gifts, but general gift-return guidance is not necessarily proof that every item using this particular workflow follows exactly the same process.

Amazon’s launch materials also do not establish a universal deadline, reminder schedule, expiration period, cancellation procedure, or refund result when a recipient never responds. Do not promise a specific outcome for an ignored invitation without checking the terms shown for the current order.
How to avoid gift-notification scams
A real Amazon gift notification may arrive by text or email, but scammers also impersonate Amazon and create fake order or account alerts.
- Open the Amazon Shopping app directly instead of tapping an unexpected link.
- Check the relevant order or notification inside your Amazon account.
- Never give an alleged Amazon representative your password, one-time passcode, or payment details.
- Treat any demand to pay with Amazon gift cards as a scam warning sign.
Amazon’s scam-prevention guidance recommends using official Amazon channels when checking account, order, payment, or gift-card information.

Amazon eGift cards
An Amazon eGift card can be delivered by email or text and does not require the sender to know a shipping address. It is generally the more dependable option when the recipient’s address is unknown or the physical-gift feature does not appear. The trade-off is that the recipient receives purchasing power rather than a specifically selected item.

Wish lists and registries
A wish list or registry lets the recipient identify suitable items and may allow delivery details to be handled through list or registry settings. This is better for birthdays, weddings, baby events, and other planned occasions, but less suitable when you want a surprise.

Ordinary address-based gifting
If you already know the recipient’s address, conventional checkout is usually more predictable. It also avoids depending on whether Amazon has enabled the no-address option for a particular product or account.
