Samsung closed its last known company-owned Chinese smartphone factory in 2019. Today, Samsung identifies South Korea, Vietnam, India, and Brazil as its major smartphone-production locations. However, Samsung support pages still list China among countries where Galaxy mobile devices may be produced, so it is too absolute to say that no Samsung phone can be made or assembled in China. For a specific phone, the country printed on its packaging, factory label, or documentation is the best evidence.
Does Samsung still make phones in China?
Samsung ended production at its last known Chinese smartphone factory in 2019, after losing substantial market share in China to domestic competitors. That does not prove Samsung ended every form of phone-related manufacturing, sourcing, or third-party assembly in China.
Samsung’s current corporate reporting identifies its major smartphone-production sites as Korea, Vietnam, India, and Brazil, without listing China as a major smartphone site. Its regional support material, however, says Galaxy mobile devices are produced in China, Korea, Vietnam, and India. The difference may reflect the scope of the documents: a corporate report can list major company-operated sites, while support material may also encompass regional production or outside manufacturing partners.
Consequently, the accurate answer is: Samsung no longer appears to use China as one of its major company-owned smartphone-production bases, but a China-made or China-assembled Galaxy phone cannot be ruled out solely from the brand or model. Samsung’s 2025 business report and first-quarter 2025 report provide the major-site picture, while Samsung’s support guidance explains how to check an individual device.

Where are Samsung phones made today?
| Country | What the available evidence shows |
|---|---|
| Vietnam | One of Samsung’s most important smartphone-production bases and a major site in its corporate reporting. |
| India | A major manufacturing and export base. Samsung identifies its Noida facility as a mobile-phone manufacturing plant and export hub. |
| South Korea | Samsung’s Gumi facilities remain listed among major smartphone-production sites. |
| Brazil | A major production location, particularly relevant to regional supply in Latin America. |
| Indonesia | Samsung’s Cikarang facility manufactures smartphones and tablets for local and regional demand. |
| China | Samsung support pages still list China among mobile-device production countries, although current corporate reports do not identify it as a major smartphone-production site. |
Samsung’s India newsroom describes the Noida facility as a mobile-phone manufacturing location. Samsung Indonesia says its Cikarang plant makes smartphones and tablets and exported more than 12 million smartphones between 2015 and 2024. These sources do not establish that every Galaxy model is produced in those countries.
Why can the same Samsung model come from different countries?
Manufacturing is allocated according to the model, generation, sales region, demand, factory capacity, local-content rules, and production arrangements. Flagship, midrange, budget, and rugged devices may not follow the same manufacturing route. A phone sold in one country may also have a different regional model number, modem configuration, or production allocation from a phone with a similar name sold elsewhere.
Samsung’s product-listing data shows that model numbers distinguish regional versions, but a model number is not a dependable factory-country code. Do not assume that every Galaxy S, A, M, or Z phone has one universal country of assembly.

How to check where your Samsung phone was made
- Inspect the retail box. Look for “Made in,” “Manufactured in,” or “Assembled in,” followed by a country. Samsung says the manufacturing country is generally shown on the device, packaging, or factory label.
- Check the factory label and documentation. Depending on the model and market, the information may appear on a rear label, regulatory sticker, SIM-tray marking, quick-start guide, or another factory label. Samsung says the quick guide may identify the manufacturing city and factory address.
- Find the device identifiers. Open Settings > About phone to view the model number, serial number, and IMEI. You can also dial
*#06#in the Phone app. Menu names can vary by model, carrier, and software version; see Samsung’s U.S. identifier instructions. - Match the phone to the box. Compare the IMEI and model number on the phone with the numbers printed on the packaging and the seller’s listing. Samsung says these identifiers can be used to identify a device.
- Verify the seller and support eligibility. A matching IMEI is useful but is not, by itself, proof of the factory country or authenticity. Consider Samsung registration, software behavior, the receipt, the seller’s reputation, and the return policy.
Important: The IMEI identifies the device; it does not function as a factory-origin certificate. The country-of-assembly statement on the box, factory label, or manufacturer documentation is stronger evidence for where that particular unit was assembled.
Does “Made in China” mean a Samsung phone is fake or lower quality?
No. A genuine Samsung phone marked “Made in China” is not automatically counterfeit or inferior. Conversely, “Made in Vietnam” or “Made in India” does not automatically prove that a phone is genuine.
Samsung says its factories use the same production technologies and that products undergo repeated checks against Samsung’s standards regardless of assembly country. That is Samsung’s stated manufacturing policy, not independent laboratory proof that every factory or unit performs identically. Still, country of assembly is not a sound quality ranking. It does not reliably predict durability, camera performance, battery life, security, software support, or processing speed.

If the box says “Made in China,” check the IMEI and model-number match, the regional version, seller authenticity, Samsung registration, software updates, regulatory markings, and warranty eligibility. Samsung’s counterfeit warning identifies warning signs such as poor printing, spelling errors, suspicious sellers, and products that do not behave like the claimed model.
Final assembly is not the same as component origin
“Made in Vietnam” normally describes the phone’s final manufacturing or assembly location. It does not mean every component was made in Vietnam, or that the phone has no connection to China.

Accessories can also carry different labels. Samsung gives the example of a phone made in China, a charger made in India, and a USB cable made in Vietnam. Therefore, check the phone’s own label rather than using the charger or cable to answer where the phone was made.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Does the assembly country affect U.S. compatibility?
For a U.S. buyer, the sales region and model number matter more than the assembly country. An imported Galaxy can differ in cellular bands, carrier certification, eSIM support, dual-SIM configuration, firmware, preinstalled apps, Samsung Wallet availability, call-recording rules, and update schedules.
Samsung’s U.S. warranty policy says smartphone service is generally limited to the country where the product was first sold. Foreign-purchased devices may involve service limitations, delays, or repair costs. Before buying an imported phone, verify:

It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).
- Compatibility with certain third-party devices and accessibility accessories, including some hearing aids, may vary depending on manufacturer support, Bluetooth protocols, software compatibility, and regional firmware limitations. - the exact U.S. model number;
- unlocked or carrier-compatible status;
- supported network bands and eSIM features;
- U.S. warranty eligibility;
- matching IMEI and packaging; and
- the seller’s return and refund policy.
A phone assembled in Vietnam may be unsuitable for a U.S. carrier if it is the wrong regional variant. A phone assembled in China may work perfectly in the United States if it is an authentic, compatible U.S. model. Assembly location is a secondary consideration.
What should buyers do if they want to avoid Chinese final assembly?
- Buy from Samsung or an authorized retailer.
- Ask the seller for a clear photograph of the exact box label before purchase.
- Confirm that the photograph identifies the same model and storage configuration being sold.
- Check the country-of-origin label after delivery.
- Make sure the return policy covers a mismatch.
This approach is more reliable than choosing a Galaxy family or assuming that all units sold in one country share the same factory. It also cannot guarantee that every component was made outside China; final assembly and supply-chain origin are separate questions.
The practical buying rule
Choose the correct regional model from a trustworthy seller, verify the phone and packaging identifiers, and confirm warranty coverage. Treat the assembly country as a traceability detail—not a quality score or an authenticity certificate.
