Barnsley’s biggest earner depends on which measure you use. By career earnings at the club, Cauley Woodrow leads with an estimated £1.5m across four seasons. By current weekly wage, Cieran Slicker and Connor O’Riordan share the top estimate at £5,400 a week for 2026/27. Both sets of figures are third-party estimates published by Salary Sport, not confirmed contract disclosures, and the two rankings answer different questions, so they should be read separately rather than merged into one list.

Two rankings, two different questions

“Biggest earners” can mean how much a player is paid right now, or how much he has earned in total while at the club. A weekly wage tells you what a contract pays per week during one season. A career total tells you what accumulated across every season a player spent at Barnsley, which may be several contracts long. Neither figure tells you what a player earned in total from football, and neither should be converted into the other.

Top 10 by career earnings at Barnsley

Salary Sport’s all-time Barnsley ranking estimates each player’s cumulative earnings at the club through the end of the 2025/26 season. The publisher presents these as rounded totals, and the order below follows the order it displays. Where two or more players show the same rounded figure, their exact positions are not separated by the publisher’s display.

Rank Player Estimated cumulative earnings at Barnsley
1 Cauley Woodrow £1.5m
2 Alex Mowatt £1.2m
3 Matty James £1.2m
4 Claudio Gomes £1.1m
5 Jordan Williams £1.1m
6 Gary Gardner £1.1m
7 Tom Bradshaw £1.1m
8 Luca Connell £988k
9 Mads Andersen £967k
10 Brad Collins £936k

Woodrow’s total is the highest in the publisher’s records. Salary Sport’s own page puts it this way: “Cauley Woodrow has earned £1.5m at Barnsley across 4 seasons, more than any other player in our records.” The sentence is the publisher’s and carries no named author.

Because the totals accumulate over a tenure, the ranking rewards length of service as much as pay level. A player who spent several seasons on a moderate wage can outrank a player who was paid more per week for a shorter stay.

Top 10 by current weekly wage (2026/27)

Salary Sport’s 2026/27 Barnsley page ranks its estimated weekly wages for the current squad. Its headline names Cieran Slicker as the highest earner, but its table lists Connor O’Riordan on the same estimate, so the top position is shared. Ten positions therefore cover eleven players.

Position Player Estimated weekly wage, 2026/27
=1 (joint) Cieran Slicker £5,400
=1 (joint) Connor O’Riordan £5,400
3 Luca Connell £5,000
4 Cameron McGeehan £4,400
5 Georgie Gent £4,200
6 Ziyad Larkeche £4,000
7 Makenzie Kirk £3,900
8 Patrick Kelly £3,800
9 Isaac Smith £3,100
10 Reyes Cleary £2,700

Luca Connell appears in both lists for different reasons: his £988k cumulative figure reflects his tenure to date, while his £5,000 weekly estimate reflects his current contract position. Neither figure should be used to infer the other.

Squad wage bill: 2026/27 compared with 2024/25

The 2026/27 page also estimates the total weekly wage bill for the squad. Salary Sport reports a weekly bill of £67,243, or £3,496,636 across the year, for a squad of 51, with a wage estimate held for 50 of those players. The 2024/25 archive gives a weekly bill of £83,065, or £4,319,380 across the year, for a squad of 39.

Season (Salary Sport) Squad size Top estimated weekly wage Estimated squad wage bill per week Estimated annual wage bill as stated by the publisher
2026/27 51 (wage estimate held for 50) £5,400 (Slicker and O’Riordan, joint) £67,243 £3,496,636
2024/25 39 £9,400 (Conor Hourihane) £83,065 £4,319,380

Salary Sport puts the current weekly estimate 19% below the 2024/25 figure. That comparison should be treated with care: the squad sizes differ, and the publisher’s coverage of individual wages is not identical across the two seasons. It is a trend in the publisher’s estimates, not a like-for-like audited comparison. The club’s wage bill is not presented here as an accounts figure.

How to read these estimates

  • They are estimates. Every salary figure here comes from Salary Sport. None is a confirmed contract disclosure, and the publisher does not name an underlying dataset or independently verified individual salaries.
  • Match the period. Compare weekly wage with weekly wage, and cumulative tenure earnings with cumulative tenure earnings. The career table runs to the end of 2025/26; the weekly table describes 2026/27.
  • Do not annualise a weekly figure into career income. A weekly rate does not show contract length, bonuses, or what a player earned in earlier seasons.
  • Check for ties. The 2026/27 top spot is shared, so any “top 10” built from that table has eleven names.

If you are writing or citing a top ten, state which measure you are using and the season or end date it covers. Those two details decide which list is correct.
