The £36.63m figure cannot be verified as a dated Sunderland squad valuation from the sources available. Transfermarkt’s 2026–27 Championship table does not list Sunderland, so it cannot establish Sunderland’s current position against the other clubs. The table does provide a like-for-like comparison among its listed clubs, in euros.
What the £36.63m figure tells us—and what it does not
An exact-figure search did not identify a dated source connecting £36.63m to Sunderland’s squad. Without that source, the amount cannot be confidently attributed to Transfermarkt, assigned to a season, or used to calculate Sunderland’s rank. This is a limit of the sources reviewed, not proof that no historical valuation exists.
That distinction matters because a squad market value is a valuation estimate, not the amount a club would necessarily receive in transfer fees. The available Transfermarkt table labels its figures as market values; it does not establish a Sunderland-specific methodology or valuation for £36.63m.
How the available Championship comparison looks
Transfermarkt’s 2026–27 Championship table lists 24 clubs and reports an aggregate market value of €2.20bn. Sunderland is absent. The listed club values below are therefore contextual comparators, not a Sunderland ranking.

Source for all figures: Transfermarkt’s 2026–27 Championship table, accessed in 2026. Blackburn’s €36.30m and Portsmouth’s €34.98m are close in nominal euro terms; Preston and Bristol City are listed higher. These comparisons do not show where Sunderland would sit.
Why the pound figure cannot be ranked against this euro table
The title’s £36.63m is stated in pounds, while the 2026–27 table reports euros. A direct numerical comparison would mix currencies, and converting the amount would still not fix the more important gaps: the £36.63m figure has no verified valuation date or season, and Sunderland is not listed in the current table. No reliable Sunderland rank follows from the information available.

A separate Transfermarkt search result for a 1 July 2026 snapshot reports a Championship aggregate of €2.25bn. The detailed page could not be opened, so that total does not provide a verified club-by-club comparison or a Sunderland valuation.

To compare Sunderland with other Championship clubs meaningfully, use figures that match across four dimensions:
Rank #3
- Official SAFC mens polyester T-shirt
- Full club crest embroidery to chest
- Garment Size (Chest): Small 40"; Medium 42"; Large 44"; XL 46"; XXL 50"; 3XL 53"

- Valuation date: use the same dated valuation or update snapshot, since estimates can change.
- Season and league membership: compare clubs in the same Championship season; the participating clubs and their league status matter.
- Currency: express all values in the same currency using a stated conversion date and method if conversion is necessary.
- Squad scope: check that each total covers the same definition of the squad and its players.
Even with those controls, market values should be described as estimates rather than expected or completed transfer proceeds.
