The reported Sheffield United takeover development involving an unnamed former Burnley figure cannot be confirmed from the available information. No source identifies the person, explains their role or establishes that a new bid or deal exists. A separate 2026 report about the club’s former acquisition parent concerns a different ownership issue.
What is known about the reported development?
The specific event behind the claim that an “ex-Burnley man” is involved remains unidentified. There is no established transaction status, named participant, deal terms or official statement tied to that claim. Without the underlying report or an announcement, it is not possible to say whether it concerns talks, a bid, an agreement or a completed takeover.
What did the separate 2026 ownership report say?
In a report dated 20 August 2026, Off The Pitch said Sheffield United could face a 12-point deduction after its former parent, COH Sports Bidco Limited, was liquidated. The report described a possible sanction, not an imposed deduction, and said the EFL would assess whether the liquidation fell within its rules. It does not connect that matter to the unspecified former Burnley figure.
The same report said US investors Helmy Eltoukhy and Steven Rosen’s consortium completed its takeover of Sheffield United in December 2024, valuing the club at over £100 million. It also reported that United World petitioned over an unpaid final payment of around £35 million. These are claims attributed to Off The Pitch; they do not verify a separate takeover development.

Does Burnley ownership history identify the person?
No. PA Media reported that ALK Capital completed its acquisition of an 84% controlling stake in Burnley on 31 December 2020, with managing partner Alan Pace becoming chairman. That historical account identifies Pace in connection with Burnley’s acquisition, but does not establish that he—or another former Burnley figure—is involved in a Sheffield United transaction. Yahoo Sports’ republication of the PA Media report provides that historical context only.

A reliable account should identify the parties and the person’s precise role, distinguish preliminary talks from a bid, agreement or completed sale, and state any transaction terms and relevant league or regulatory approvals. For this particular claim, those details have not been established.
