No verified 2024 PEOPLE Food Awards winner list is available from the sources this article relies on, so this page does not name 2024 PEOPLE winners. What can be established is how PEOPLE selects its supermarket picks, which products its 2023 coverage documented, and why a separate 2024 award with a similar name is often mistaken for PEOPLE’s.
How PEOPLE selects its supermarket picks
ABC News reported on June 22, 2023 that PEOPLE tests hundreds of new supermarket products each year and selects winners across categories. The ABC News / Good Morning America report covered PEOPLE’s 2023 Food Awards and describes the product categories as pantry staples, frozen foods, plant-based items and more. The report does not give a numerical count of products tested that year, so “hundreds” is the only size estimate attributable to that source.
The 2023 PEOPLE winners that are documented
The following five products were featured in the 2023 ABC News segment. They are 2023 award examples, not 2024 winners, and their current shelf availability was not checked for this article.
- Kettle Brand Air-Fried Sea Salt & Vinegar Potato Chips
- Cabot Guinness Macaroni & Cheese
- Trader Joe’s Shrimp Boom Bah
- California Pizza Kitchen Bacon & Caramelized Onion Frozen Pizza with Croissant-Inspired Crust
- Beyond Steak
On the Trader Joe’s shrimp, PEOPLE Editorial Director Sonal Dutt said: “This shrimp is lightly breaded and you can either bake it or fry it and it ends up really crispy.”

Why the 2024 PEOPLE list is not named here
No verified 2024 PEOPLE winner list was located. Naming products as 2024 PEOPLE winners without a confirmed roundup would be guesswork. A reader looking for those picks should open PEOPLE’s own roundup and check its publication date, then match the year and the program name against this article before relying on any label.
Product of the Year USA is a separate 2024 award
Product of the Year USA announced 46 category winners on February 9, 2024, in a Product of the Year USA release distributed through PR Newswire. The selection was based on a national study of 40,000 American shoppers conducted with Kantar. Those figures belong to Product of the Year USA and should not be read as describing PEOPLE’s process.

Mike Nolan, Global CEO of Product of the Year Management, said in the same release: “The significance of Product of the Year has reached new heights in 2024 as consumers enjoy unprecedented access to products, and the marketplace becomes more dynamic with strategic partnerships that amplify reach and impact.” That statement concerns Product of the Year USA, not PEOPLE.
Quaker Fruit Fusion Instant Oatmeal
The Product of the Year USA release names Quaker Fruit Fusion Instant Oatmeal as the Breakfast category winner. That makes it a Product of the Year USA winner. It does not make it a PEOPLE Food Awards winner. The release also says Product of the Year USA winners were featured in a shoppable PEOPLE Online article, but whether this oatmeal appeared in that article is not established, and that feature would not change who won PEOPLE’s awards. Its current availability was not checked.

How to check a food award before you buy
An award label only helps a budget if you can trace it to the program and year that issued it. Work through these steps before paying a premium for an award-winning product.

- Confirm the program name and year on the publisher’s own page, not on a shared post or an image caption.
- Check that the product appears in the winner list itself. A shoppable article featuring another program’s winners is not the same as that program’s roundup.
- Find the current listing at your store. Items from 2023 or 2024 may have been discontinued, reformulated, or sold in a different package size.
- Compare unit prices, not shelf prices. Divide the price by the ounces or count printed on the package, then compare against a store-brand version with a similar ingredient list.
- Treat the award as a discovery tool. It can point you to a product worth trying, but it does not establish that the product is the cheapest option for your household.
