For the last four completed seasons—2022/23 through 2025/26—the available estimates identify Frank Onyeka as Coventry City’s highest-paid player in 2024/25, at £37,000 a week, and Matt Grimes in 2025/26, at £35,000 a week. The sources do not establish a season leader for 2022/23 or 2023/24, so a complete four-season ranking cannot be confirmed. These are salary-database estimates, not disclosed or independently audited contract figures.
Who is Coventry City’s highest-paid player?
There is no single answer across all four seasons: the available estimates name different leaders for 2024/25 and 2025/26. SalarySport lists Frank Onyeka as Coventry City’s top earner in 2024/25, while SalaryLeaks names Matt Grimes as the highest earner in 2025/26. Neither source establishes the top earner for the two earlier seasons covered here.
Coventry City player wages by season
| Season | Highest-paid player supported by available evidence | Estimated weekly wage | Annualized figure | Source and qualification |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2022/23 | Not established | Not established | Not established | SalarySport’s retrieved excerpt is only a partial table; it does not identify the season’s top earner. SalarySport |
| 2023/24 | Not established | Not established | Not established | SalarySport’s summary gives an average for a subset of players but does not name a top earner. SalarySport |
| 2024/25 | Frank Onyeka | £37,000 | £1,924,000 annualized | SalarySport estimate; annual figure is the weekly estimate multiplied by 52, not confirmed cash paid during the season. Jack Rudoni is listed next at £30,000 a week (£1,560,000 annualized). SalarySport |
| 2025/26 | Matt Grimes | £35,000 | £1.8 million a year, as listed | SalaryLeaks estimate. The site says its estimates draw on published wage bills, football reporting and contract details, but this does not establish that every listed amount is individually verified. Haji Wright and Ellis Simms are each listed at £25,000 a week. SalaryLeaks |
The two supported weekly estimates are close, but they come from different databases and seasons. They should be read as source-specific estimates, not as a verified change in Coventry City’s pay scale or a definitive comparison of total compensation.
What the earlier-season figures do—and do not—show
2022/23
SalarySport’s indexed excerpt gives Matt Godden at £3,900 a week (£202,800 annually) and Ben Wilson at £3,500 a week (£182,000 annually). Because the excerpt does not show the full wage table, neither figure establishes who was highest-paid that season.

SalarySport’s summary reports an estimated average of £8,243 a week for players aged 22 or older, based on 21 wage entries against a 51-player squad. That is a partial-coverage average, not a top-earner figure; it cannot be used to identify the highest-paid player.
How reliable are these wage estimates?
Coventry City does not disclose individual player contracts in the sources cited here. SalarySport and SalaryLeaks publish estimates with different coverage and methods, so each number needs to stay attached to its source and season. SalaryLeaks describes its approach as compiling data from credible public reports; that is the site’s own methodology statement, not an independent audit.

Fixed salary estimates, bonuses, aggregate club payroll costs and staff expenses are not interchangeable. Capology

Coventry City’s 2024 accounts search excerpt says player wages accounted for much of a rise in expenditure and refers to profits from player sales, mainly Viktor Gyökeres and Gus Hamer. It does not disclose individual salaries. Coventry City accounts
