Uzum’s Eurobond Plans After Its Top Local Issuer Claim: What Is Confirmed

Uzbek fintech Uzum has moved from a stated plan for an international debut bond to a registered US$50 million foreign-currency issue, according to UzDaily’s September 2026 report. That registration is not the same as a completed sale, and the reporting does not establish that the deal is the one Bloomberg described in 2025 or that it is a Eurobond in the legal sense. Uzum’s domestic program is the better-documented part of the story: UzDaily says five local issues have raised UZS 2.1 trillion, which it uses to describe Uzum as the country’s largest private corporate issuer.

The timeline, with the status of each step

The sequence runs across roughly thirteen months, and each step has a different level of confirmation. The table separates what was announced, reported, or registered.

Date Event Status and source
29 August 2025 Uzum considers a US$300 million debut sale on international bond markets, as soon as the first half of 2026 Plan reported by Bloomberg, citing co-founder Nikolay Seleznev. Not a completed transaction.
27 October 2025 Second domestic issue: UZS 400 billion, 24% coupon, two-year maturity, UZS 100 million par value per bond, to be placed on the Republican Stock Exchange “Toshkent” Announced by Uzum. Placement details beyond the announcement are not covered in the reporting reviewed.
15 September 2026 First foreign-currency bond issue, US$50 million at 8.5%, registered by the National Agency of Prospective Projects Reported by UzDaily. Registration only; maturity, currency denomination, listing venue, allocation, and placement status are not stated.
17 September 2026 Fifth domestic issue: UZS 600 billion at 18%, reported as placed; UZS 2.1 trillion across five local placements Reported by UzDaily. About 60% of this placement was taken up by non-residents, per the same report.

Why the August 2025 plan and the September 2026 registration are not yet linked

The Bloomberg figure of US$300 million and the registered US$50 million issue differ in size, and the reporting does not say whether the smaller issue is a first tranche, a separate instrument, or a replacement for the earlier plan. The first half of 2026 that Bloomberg cited has passed, and the sources reviewed do not confirm that a debut international sale of any size was priced in that window. Until a placement notice, an offering document, or a listing announcement is published, the honest reading is that Uzum has a registered foreign-currency issue and an earlier, larger, unconfirmed international ambition.

What “top local issuer” rests on

The phrase comes from UzDaily’s September 2026 account, which totals five local issues at UZS 2.1 trillion and calls Uzum the largest private corporate issuer in the country. That is a press characterization of the figures, not a ranking published by a regulator or exchange, and the reporting does not include a cross-issuer market dataset that would let it be checked independently. If you cite the claim, attribute it to UzDaily and keep the UZS 2.1 trillion figure as the verifiable core.

Is it a Eurobond?

The word “Eurobond” is shorthand in financial media for an internationally placed bond, usually in foreign currency. The reporting on Uzum does not describe the governing law, the placement mechanics, or the listing venue of the registered issue, so it does not establish that label. Bloomberg’s 2025 article also named Hong Kong, Abu Dhabi, and Nasdaq as possible venues for an international listing and mentioned a possible IPO in 2027, but these were options discussed by the company’s co-founder, not settled facts.

Reading the numbers without a false comparison

The coupons in these reports cannot be placed on one scale. The 8.5% rate on the foreign-currency issue, the 18% on the fifth domestic issue, and the 24% on the second domestic issue are set in different currencies, for different tenors, at different dates, and against the same issuer in different market conditions. A lower headline rate on a dollar instrument does not mean cheaper financing in any sense a borrower or investor could act on without the maturity, currency, and final documentation.

Two facts from the reporting are useful when reading the domestic line. The first is the scale: five issues reaching UZS 2.1 trillion show that the domestic market has absorbed repeated Uzum paper. The second is the investor base: the roughly 60% non-resident participation in the fifth issue, as UzDaily reported it, indicates that the domestic placements were not sold only to local buyers. That figure is UzDaily’s and has not been independently verified.

Uzum’s chief financial officer, Nikita Gulyaev, said in the company’s October 2025 announcement: “The first bond issuance confirmed the strong interest from investors and the market’s readiness for new financial instruments.” That is the company’s own reading of investor demand, not a measured result.

What is still open

  • Whether the US$50 million foreign-currency issue has been placed, and at what final allocation.
  • Its maturity, currency denomination, and listing venue, none of which the September 2026 report states.
  • Whether it is the same transaction as the US$300 million international sale Bloomberg described in August 2025, or a separate instrument.
  • The terms of the third and fourth domestic issues, which the reporting reviewed does not itemize.
  • Whether the company’s 2027 IPO preparation has moved beyond the stage reported in 2025.

Each of these will be answered by a placement announcement, an exchange listing, or a company filing. Until one of those appears, treat Uzum’s international bond story as a registered issue with incomplete terms, and its domestic record as a documented series of placements reported by UzDaily and announced by the company.
