What you are buying
Office Home & Business 2024 is a one-time purchase. Microsoft’s Store description reads: “A one-time purchase installed on 1 PC or Mac for use at home or work.” One license covers one computer, and the license is for home or work use.
The included desktop apps are Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneNote. This is not a Microsoft 365 subscription. Microsoft states that one-time-purchase Office does not include Microsoft 365 subscription services, and it has no upgrade path to the next major Office release. If you want that later release, you would buy it separately.
Price: the official figure and the discount
Microsoft’s U.S. product page shows $249.99. That is the only official reference price in the sources reviewed. The discounted figures come from third-party deal sites, and each needs its own check.

The 64% figure belongs to the deal listings. Microsoft has not presented it as an official promotion, so do not read it as one.

The main decision is whether you want to pay once for a fixed set of apps or pay an ongoing subscription. The table below uses only what Microsoft’s product information establishes. Where the sources do not address a point, the cell says so.

If you expect to replace the computer and keep the same apps, a one-time license fits that pattern. If you need services that the one-time edition does not include, the one-time license does not meet that need, whatever the price.

Compatibility and activation
Microsoft’s support requirements page lists operating system, processor, RAM, storage, and display requirements for Office 2024. For Windows, the requirements table specifies Windows 11, and Windows 11 is the stated minimum for ARM-based devices. Check the page against your exact Windows version and hardware before you pay.
The page also says internet access is required to:
- Redeem the license and associate it with your account
- Activate the apps
- Periodically keep the apps activated
An offline computer cannot complete that process. If the computer will rarely go online, confirm the activation terms before buying.
