In August 2024, Zepto co-founder Aadit Palicha said the Indian quick-commerce company had raised $1 billion in the previous 90 days and expected 150% growth over the next 12 months. The growth figure was a forecast, not a result. The $1.5 billion figure cited alongside it was an annualized sales run rate—not audited revenue—and the report does not establish whether Zepto later met its projection.
What Zepto reported in August 2024
TechCrunch reported that Palicha shared the fundraising and growth figures during a call with analysts and investors organized by an investment bank. The company’s annualized sales run rate had recently exceeded $1.5 billion, according to materials the reporter reviewed. Palicha projected 150% growth over the coming 12 months, which would put sales above $3.5 billion if achieved. Those were company-reported figures and a forward-looking projection, not audited annual revenue or a verified future result. TechCrunch’s August 27, 2024 report was updated August 30 to note confirmation of the follow-on funding round.
How Zepto raised $1 billion in 90 days
The reported total combined two rounds: a $665 million round closed in June 2024 and a $340 million follow-on round led by General Catalyst. Zepto confirmed the $340 million round on August 30. Mars Growth Capital (Dragon Fund) and Epiq Capital also participated as new investors. The two reported amounts add up to $1.005 billion, which the report described as $1 billion raised over the prior 90 days. TechCrunch associated the August funding with a $5 billion valuation.

Fundraising and sales measure different things: the funding total is capital raised, while the sales run rate is an estimate of the pace of sales. Neither figure, on its own, establishes the company’s profitability.

What the 150% growth projection meant
Palicha’s projection was for growth over the 12 months following the August 2024 call. TechCrunch reported that annualized sales had exceeded $1.5 billion and that 150% growth would take sales above $3.5 billion. Read carefully, this is a conditional projection based on the reported run rate—not proof that sales actually reached that level. An annualized run rate extrapolates a recent pace across a year; it is not the same as audited revenue earned over a completed financial year.
The report does not establish whether Zepto met the projection. TechCrunch’s Zepto topic page lists later coverage, including a June 2026 IPO-filing headline, but that headline does not establish financial results. The sources available here do not establish Zepto’s current financial position as of October 8, 2026, so the 2024 forecast should not be presented as current performance. TechCrunch’s Zepto coverage page provides the later headlines, not the underlying figures.

Why the quick-commerce market mattered
TechCrunch described Zepto as an Indian quick-commerce company delivering groceries, personal-care products, and other goods, with services positioned around delivery in roughly 10 to 15 minutes. The report named Zomato’s Blinkit, Swiggy Instamart, and Tata-owned BigBasket’s BB Now as competitors. Zepto was founded in 2021 by Aadit Palicha and Kaivalya Vohra, according to the TechCrunch topic page.
The 2024 article said quick commerce had grown by more than 100% annually in each of the preceding three years, compared with 11% to 12% annual growth for Indian e-commerce, citing industry figures. It did not identify the original compiler of those industry estimates, so they are best treated as context reported at the time, not as independently verified current statistics.

Separately, an Elara Capital note quoted by TechCrunch estimated that quick commerce then represented 10% to 15% of total e-commerce and projected it might account for 40% to 50% of e-commerce in some categories within three years. The share was an analyst estimate, and the larger figure was a forecast—not a subsequently confirmed market outcome.

Investors asked whether the model could grow beyond the top dozen or so Indian cities where such apps then operated primarily. Palicha argued that it could, saying, “Quick commerce is not a Tier 1 phenomenon,” and that Zepto’s data pointed to opportunity in tier 2 and tier 3 markets. This was management’s assessment of the opportunity, not evidence that the expansion succeeded. The 2024 report raises the strategic question but does not provide comparable current city coverage or results for Zepto and its competitors.
